We've stumbled across a Microsoft job posting for a 'program manager'. The Job description indicates that Microsoft is already at work on their next console and Halo 4 is set to be the title to launch it. The suggestive quote is as follows "Microsoft’s new Halo Studio team is looking for a technical and highly talented program manager to work with an engineering team to help define the next generation of gaming software technology."

Microsoft: Program Manager

Microsoft’s new Halo Studio team is looking for a technical and highly talented program manager to work with an engineering team to help define the next generation of gaming software technology. As part of a next generation team, you'll be instrumental in helping to lead the development of the engine that will power future experiences for the next generation of gaming platforms. You will work closely with the software architect and the senior development team behind this critical new effort. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with artists, designers, and other creative functions within MGS to ensure that we are building the best possible platform for content creators. You will also work to ensure we are building collaborative efforts with expertise available across the company, including the Xbox platform team and Microsoft Research.

Requirements:

Successful candidates will be highly-motivated self-starters, with a strong technical background and a tremendous passion for games. Expertise with DirectX, Xbox SDK, leading content-creation packages, or other games-related technology, or a track-record in shipping technically challenging entertainment titles is a significant advantage. Although you will not be required to write code, the ability to read C++ or C# and engage in technical discussions about development issues will also be extremely valuable.

Well one things sure on my “hope for list”.

It doesn’t sound like a hair dryer on at “full blast”

I’d like to use my 360 more but having to turn the volume up on my TV to drown out the din is not what I expect from a piece of “state of the art” equipment…

You're right.

As soon as one piece of hardware hits the market, their R&D looks to the next generation. It's nothing new or "rumoured".

I think they should start setting up a business on some outlandish island where they can store all the problematic 720's
Its MS. Their mentality on EVERYTHING they release is "oh its ok if it doesnt work when it goes out, well just spend more money fixing it for years so we can get it out before the other companies"

Considering how they are getting beat right now... I know that can foresee the future very well, and with their 68% defect rates, they surely can't expect to last too long.

Seriously, who is interested in Halo anymore. Don't think they should be focused on it being important in the launch.

considering how much halo 3 sold I think they would have a better launch with halo 4 under its belt.

Companies all start working on their next console after their current one is released... Obviously.

Microsoft wants to launch a Halo title at launch... seems like another obvious move.

Maybe this is news for those who haven't owned consoles two generations back.

Hey, do you know how you can keep you XBox 720 and PS4 from breaking down?

It's just a rumor, but i wouldn't be surprised, most companies start working on a new console soon after they release the latest one, that's just common sense, but seeing how they planned for 360 to have a 15 year life cycle, let's hope 12 years is enough for them to design a console that won't crap up on the third of the users.
