With the laws regarding price and demand, it is hardly surprising that the Xbox 360 price cut is encouraging greater purchases from consumers. Microsoft has revealed that some models are now selling at six times they were the weekend prior and retailers are reporting a 100%+ sales increase for the Xbox 360 due to the price cuts!

Microsoft said today that Xbox 360 sales rose significantly following the price cuts announced by the company last week. The company said retailers are reporting that sales of the video-game console increased more than 100 percent over the weekend, compared with the prior weekend.

Of course, it remains to be seen if those bumps will be temporary or lasting. The idea behind the price cuts was to strengthen the company's position going into the upcoming holidays, said David Dennis, a Microsoft spokesman. Following the price cut, the Xbox 360 Arcade model is selling at six times the previous rate, Dennis said. The new $199 price of that model is $50 cheaper than Nintendo's market-leading Wii game console.

Having the lowest price console is always a good thing. I would expect these sales to slow down again and then burst during the holidays.

100%?

If they was selling 1000 a day, and they sold SIX TIMES faster it means they would be selling 6000 a day. Well thats a 600% increase, right?

They only said the Arcade sold six times as much.

It was 100% across all the SKUs, so that means the Pro and Elite still sold more, just not nearly as much as the Arcade.

first 2 weeks is always good sales because of price drops make sales ads. But at $199 and all the good games coming out now through the holidays, id expect sales to stay up.

But i still think nintendo will cont its great sales as it appeals to a lot larger audience and sony will drop ps3 price to try and slow xbox 360 sales to not lose potential ps3 owners who might decide to go wii60.

Bullshits DO NOT COST anything and m$ knows that for sure....
I still remember when they said that in Xmas 2006 they managed to sell more then the Wii that was pratically a sell out as soon as it was on the shelves, that says a lot.

The price drop was the worst kept secret in history, so people who were thinking about buying a 360 knew to wait for the drop. So yeah, once the drop occurred, sales soared.

Well the arcade and 20gig console are pretty much phase out.http://www.gamespot.com/news/6193719.html?tag=result;title;3 If you are a smart consumer you get more with you buck by getting the 60gig or 120gig version in a long run. The only reason I see the arcade unit sales are people planning on playing back up. M$ still have a long wait to go compare sales to Nintendo. As for Sony I dont see a price drop anytime soon due to their major ip line up (LBP, Socom, Resistance2) on the horizion.

If this is true (I don't really trust this kind of news from ms/sony/nintendo's mouth), I would be curious to know if sony still don't care about ms' price-cuts.

Sony cares about sales, so yes this increase effects them. The question for sony is lowering ps3 prices hurts stand alone bluray player and they will probably have to take a cut as well.
If the xbox 360 can maintain or establish a growing month to month sales. Then sony will cut this year as well. They dont wanna go into the holiday the over priced system. If the xbox 360 sales go back to last months numbers, sony wont cut until e-3 next year.

Nintendo will do whats ever best for them and as long as they sell out. They probably dont care.

But you cant bet both sony and nintendo are watching to see what happens next with the $199 core unit.

seeing that the arcade edition sku is the worst one to buy and was always the worst seller i'm not surprised that now it has attracted a few extra sales. Shame is not the same worldwide

Huh? All those piece of sh!t 360 were XENONs, not FALCONs. All 360s with Falcon boards are pretty reliable, as 99,9% of the people I see with problems (RRoD or other) are owners of a XENON 360. Xenon models were sold since the 360 launch until the end of 2007, approximately. This is a quite large time period, and this mean that many people bought one during this period, explaining why there are so much people with problems (and I got my share too, as my piece of sh!t Xenon bought in August 2007 got the RRoD last July).

Anyone who bought a 360 at retail since the end of 2007 should have a Falcon board. And the more recent ones (the ones that come with the 60Gb HDD, most notably) have a modified Falcon board with even more improvements. These are reported to be quite reliable.

I sold back my refurb Microsoft sent me (another Xenon!) and bought the new 60Gb model. It's amazingly quiet too.

Falcons still get RROD, or just as common Hana AV problems. Plenty of people styill returning 360's new and old.

"MS: Some Xbox 360 models selling six times faster due to price cut, 100% increase"

All this is normal in the first week.

A temporary boost in sales, also happens when are released good exclusives.

The next week, sales will return normal.

Sony is in real trouble. 360 has been out way longer and has the resources to lower the price. Sony might have to throw in the towel. They could deduct the price twice on the 360 again, lose some money, but have a huge market share then after 6 months cut even at 1 year make money while Sony is trying to figure how the hell they can re-circuit the damn thing.

Put simply SONY'S FUKED!
