View Full Version : New Xbox 360 games copied to HDD won't load much quicker, but old ones will
The Xbox Product Manager of Germany has revealed that old games such as Project Gotham Racing 3 will feature far reduced load times when installed on the Xbox 360's hard drive. However he noted that new games won't load much quicker if installed on the Xbox 360 hard drive as they have already been optimized.
Xbox Product Manager Germany Boris Schneider-Johne states in a utmost interesting interview with Golem.de that this won't be the case for the majority of 360 games.
We now allow the customer to install games on their hard drive. This is optional, you don't have to do it. But if I do it, these games will load faster because a DVD-drive with seek operation does have load times every now and then. There are prominent examples, for instance: Project Gotham Racing 3, one of the first games for the Xbox 360. There the load times have been very long; those are going to get reduced immensely. Recent games are already optimized; there the gain is relatively small.

I noticed when I play my 360, games like halo 3 and gears of war, sometimes it tends to lag a little bit during the game?

Never had that problem myself m8, in fact can't think of any game i have on the 360 or PS3 for that matter that suffers from gameplay lag. As for the info that game installs wont affect new games all that much means i wont need to bother transfering to the H/D. Never bothered playing my old xbox games on the 360 and can't see me doing so even if it increases load times now.
so what about popups in GTA4 and mercs2 i hope it will fix those
and have a backup and the orginal and both do it (not the same xbox)

I'm think thats related to the game engine. Doubt an installation will fix the Mercs 2 pop-up, GTA might work better driving around a city.

if your referring to multiplayer then no thats just teh internets....and if you mean the campaign, well you must love both games if your still playing the campaign and if you rtfa it clearly stated

so id take that as NO since it only mentions "LOAD" times not gameplay....

We will see. Games like Infinite Undiscovery have indeed very fast loading times (a few seconds starting a saved game). But Games like Lost Odyssey will be more fun if played from HDD.

the full game copie is a trick to make exist user buy HDD.
Once most user have HDD They will make game that request HDD and load form both HDD and DVD at same time.
Note that there is a game that request HDD to install on xbox360 like Football Manager 2006 exist.

I just hope I'll finally get to play Mass Effect again. 'kin disc read errors.
I wish my 360 would RRoD :p so I could get a "brand new" refurb, lol.
Oh well, over the last 3 generations; the only consoles not to die on me were the original xbox and the N64. I wonder if suspending my 360 from the ceiling will fix the disc read errors, like back in the PS1 days.
Roll on next gen.

I'm curious about one thing...
How this feature will manage multi-disc games? Not that I have any, but I'm just wondering if this will actually mean not having to swap discs for installed games...

So where are all the xbox idiots who were flaming the PS3 post yesterday about installs for games? Strange that they aren't here bragging.
Only sensible folks? Ok then who are the idiots trolling the PS3 forums? meh....
on to the topic at hand.....
Great idea I just wish my 360 drive wasn't full. It would be nice if MS would have let the users replace the drive themselves so that we could really take advantage of features like this. It also must not be helping with the sales of downloads.
I know I download my game demos on the PS3 now since I have room, and my Wii now gets zero downloads because the damn memory is full.
Please MS release a shell that we can put our own drives in.
