View Full Version : LittleBigPlanet couldn't have been made on Xbox 360
Media Molecule's Alex Evans has stated that LittleBigPlanet couldn't have been made on Xbox 360. According to Alex, the main 2 reasons for this are that the game was designed to fit on a blu-ray disc and that there is a hard drive in every single PS3 SKU. "The 360 is an incredibly capable machine, and you could make a user-generated content game on it, no question - just as you could make one on the PS2 or the Megadrive, or any platform," he said. "But because we picked our platform, you go and you use every available bit of space, every little processor cycle." In the end, Alex concluded that you could make the game on the 360, but it'd be a different game.

Yup and the first to start is a PS3 owner ie: kingneal09
But going to the OP, popped off to read the full interview and it makes good reading and kinda makes more sense of the part where he says first it cant be made on the 360 and then at the end says it could. Reading the full interview explains it a lot better than whats been said on here.

Yeah! at this point i preety much know, any game possible on the ps3 is possible on the 360 and vice versa. It's just that they have two very differing architectures, which, with the right amount of money and time can be overcome easily. Besides, most games being developed today are being done so on computers so it can swing either way if there was a need to.
My biggest worry is LBP might turn out to be yet another one of sony's misfires and how many have we seen thus far?

This game looks interesting. I'll have to get a PS3 sometime.

Read the actual comment. All they said is they built it from ground up for PS3 so it would be difficult on 360 'as it is'. No doubt Bungie developed Halo 3 for 360 such that it wouldn't be possible on PS3 'as it is'.
Typical out of context news.

Lair (Heralded as the next big graphical, control revolution)
Haze (Heralded as the most exciting, graphically, technically blah blah fps)
Dark Kingdom (Heralded as the first of the "next gen" dungeon RPG's)
Full Auto 2 (Heralded as the blazing fast, intuitive exclusive racer)
Ridge Racer 7 (Best Ridge Racer ever? or just a port of ridge racer 6?)
Heavenly Sword (The next GOW and even a potential ps3 flagship character not to mention lara croft killer)
Folklore (The most artistic blend of rpg and action since well....someone bastardised iko and colossus)
F1 Championship (Most realistic racer sim on the console for almost 2 years)
All but failed miserably at setting the retail chains and not to mention hearts of reviewers and the gaming public alight. Anyone care to mention more? To me at this point, the lesson is WELL learned. I dont know how little brains one needs to have to still keep hopes high.

and the hardware to run it. cod4 was ported to ds but i wouldt call it the same game. he made valid points. without a standard hard drive and the space on bd to fit the tutorials the ugc aspect of the game would need to be scaled back. the game would still play on a 360. but it would be different. which is exactly what the guy said.

+1
i also love "the game was designed to fit on a blu-ray disc"
OR maybe
"we included all 6912 languages used for multi-region"
LOL give a better reason than the medium.....the lack of harddrive i agree with (m$ were able to drop to $199 much quicker because of that issue, probably the whole plan from r&d)

hahahahahahaha you seem to ignore your own points. retailers are pushing this game. gamers haved demoed this game and are buzzing over it. and so far the critics previews have been full of excitement. none of the games you mention are like lbp. not one of them are made by the same developer, and they have nothing to do with lbp

The article was very balanced without just saying it for no reason like we have seen both Sony and Microsoft developers say in the past. I believe the biggest problem is lack of user generated content on the 360 and this is what this is all about. I watched the tutorial video today and now fully understand what I am looking forward to and even more anticipating this title.

The majority of the games he mentioned had retailers pushing them, gamers testing them and critics hyping them with massive previews. All of them failed to live up to the hype, all of them.
But, saying that, LBP looks 'kin cool. Character and level design look top notch, creation tools look well developed and the pyshics on show are a impressive. I can see SackBoy becoming Sony's Mario, or at the very least, taking over from Spyro/Crash/Jak. If GT ever gets released I'll be buying that, a PS3 and LBP (as long as it doesn't flop, GT definitely won't disappoint, Top Gear track )

Didn't Miyamoto or Iwata say that they were in talks with the LBP people, and considered it a great win for Sony that they were able to nab them? That essentially means this game was considered for the Wii platform.
So yeah.
If it can't be done on the Xbox360, what does that mean exactly? Not quite as many pieces of yarn making up the characters' faces? From the clips I've seen, you could probably bring this game on the dreamcast pretty intact.
I mean, yeah, if you put the LBP blu-ray into an Xbox360, it's not going to work. Color me shocked.

Lair (Heralded as the next big graphical, control revolution)(50/50, you need steady hands to control the dragons)
Haze (Heralded as the most exciting, graphically, technically blah blah fps)(agreed)
Dark Kingdom (Heralded as the first of the "next gen" dungeon RPG's)(agreed, the game was a steaming pile of turd)
Full Auto 2 (Heralded as the blazing fast, intuitive exclusive racer)(agreed)
Ridge Racer 7 (Best Ridge Racer ever? or just a port of ridge racer 6?)(agreed, RR series should just die.)
Heavenly Sword (The next GOW and even a potential ps3 flagship character not to mention lara croft killer)(sorry, Lara Croft and Nariko have NOTHING in common. The gameplay was genius, the motion sensor things were awesome and the story was epic. Tomb Raider had clunk control, HS was extremely fluid, have you even PLAYED THE GAME? )
Folklore (The most artistic blend of rpg and action since well....someone bastardised iko and colossus)(Nope.it was a different breath of action rpg genre. and who told you it was a bastardised iko and colossus? Clearly the person a) have not played the game b)lying c) an idiot. In short, its not your typical action RPG)
F1 Championship (Most realistic racer sim on the console for almost 2 years)(crap)
You are unfair at giving your comments there.

Not all failed. If you care to be fair to judge, throw in GT5P, MGS4, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Ratchet and Clank on the board, then lets see how the dice rolls this time. We gotta be fair. Give credits that the devs deserve.

the money part covers all the hardware problems, and the only change a customer should see between a ps3 port to a 360 should be the controller.

I can only speak for three games on that list, and I tend to not buy crappy games, so any game that you think is crappy, and I don't stick up for it, you can take that as my agreement that it's probably crap.
Lair -- hey, if it was heralded as a graphical tour de force, I'd say it's was a total winner in that sense, it looks absolutely amazing. It _is_ a technically amazing game. Sadly, the gameplay is competent but bland, the controls are iffy, and (in my experience) it crashes occasionally. While crashing is a new trick, I feel all of Factor5's games have been technically excellent but mediocre as games. Rogue Leader was only good because it was a visually amazing starwars game. Nobody really cared that the controls in that game sucked, but they did. Try to do an aerial loop in Rogue Leader. You can't. Lair is a mediocre game with amazing production values (like every Factor5 game ever--and hey at least it's not as bad as RL2).
Heavenly Sword -- this game was just a really strong game. As most critics said, the main deficiency is that it was such a well made game, with fun gameplay and a great presentation, that you wished it might run a little longer. Anyone who knocks this game can only knock it on being too short, unless they just want to hate it for the sake of hating it. In which case they can knock it for anything, I guess. When people bash a game because you can't jump, their credibility is instantly ruined. Obviously, if you can't jump in a game, it was designed not to require jumping. This game is an excellent game with excellent production values.
Folklore -- it reminds me of a Team Ico game ...like...not at all? I don't even see the similarities. If I had to draw any kind of lame comparison, I'd say it reminds me more of soul-reaver, with the whole soul-sucking mechanic. It's basically a "pretty" game, with an interesting storyline, and adequate but not amazing gameplay. Thus, a competent game with excellent production values.
Plus, there has been Motorstorm, Resistance, Ratchet and Clank, Warhawk, Uncharted, a couple nice multiplatform titles (DMC4, GTA4, CoD4, MGS4, Soul Calibur4, Elder Scrolls 4, the number 4 by itself, maybe, etc..)
And more.. I just didn't want to mention a non-multiplat title that didn't have a 4 in it, thus breaking the pattern of that ridiculous list. Crap, just realized I put MGS4 in there. Oh well! Number 4 > you and me.
My point being: LittleBigPlanet has plenty of room to suck in my book, because the games preceding it have set a high standard. I'm not pinning my hopes on "finally" having a good game for PS3, because I already have a bunch. Certainly, I'm not going to complain about getting another. Who would do that?

Everybody here has repeated it but it's the most arrogant insulting comment to anybody that knows anything. It could have been on 360 PERIOD. It's not a huge graphical leap and the only thing you couldn't do is jiggle your sackboy due to loss of sixaxis.

money covers all hardware problems? so if IW threw enough money at it the DS version of COD4 could have matched the 360/ps3? your a nut. controller is the big difference? Where the hell would core owners store the levels and creations? the games primary draw is the creation and sharing tools.
