Great video, although it would help to make it shorter by speed framing the screw removals / putting together.

oh, and 1 more thing. Please don't use a magnetic screwdriver when handling magnetic media. I know everything is shielded but, something just doesn't seem right about that! :)

Great video! Thanks!

Do not do this unless you want to get banned from Xbox LIVE (or are already banned).

Does this actually let you use the full capacity of the drive you use? Or does it still limit you the the size of the drive whose ID you clone?

Would be nice to say what HDD he used (Hitatchi / Seagate / ???)

Also i think MS will see if you have replaced your HDD, not with the official 120gig one, but he, i could be wrong.

With the Fall update allowing us to save games to our hard drives, we're going to need as much hard drive space as we can get. What's currently the best bang for the buck in 2.5" drives?

Thanks,

This is OLD news, also it was/is rumoured that ms will ban you once they find out the drive has been swapped (which apparantly they can do)

What people need to understand about this:
1 - it only works with a 120GB WD Scorpio BEVS hard drive (this one: HERE (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136072))

2 - Some people have been able to use a larger drive, but because of the way the hack works, it will only read 120GB of that drive. So no, you cannot have a 500GB xbox 360 hard drive, at least not until M$ releases an official one of that size.

3 - if you do not currently own the 120GB OFFICIAL hard drive, you will have to use the hacked security sector included with hddhackr. Some people have speculated this could cause M$ to ban your console. There is no question they will know about it.

Perhaps their waiting to lose some financial gain (like when the dashboard update hits and you can install games onto the HDD). Perhaps you will never get banned for it, but there is always that risk.

Kind of off topic but:

Back when my 360 was still alive i made the mistake of buying XBLA games. I still have the hard drive (along with my profile and saves). Since i don't plan on getting a 360 again anytime soon i was thinking of removing the HDD out of its shell and putting it on a 2.5" usb enclosure to use it as a portable drive. Would i have any way of recovering my gamertag and XBLA games in the future if i decided to use that same HDD for a new xbox?

2 bad the most important part of prepping the drive with hddhackr is missing.
go flash the wrong bin file and fubar hdd.

You're of course still limited to the capacity of the original hdss.bin. this will not change unless someone finds a way to sign stuff.. which is highly unlikely.

can an external USB HDD be used as storage esp. with the new game installs on the horizon?

While the PS3 already HAS a feature to replace the hard drive with a notebook drive. Great move on Microsoft's part for defective hardware and proprietary parts. Good thing their fans will stick with them to the ends of the Earth.

HDDHackr had made this possible for OVER A YEAR NOW.

and even with hundreds (thousands?) of people using the same HDDSS.BIN (md5 11acd0c104cb9fe21b6087e30190fc0a) nobody has been banned.

this is not a shot at the article, since the video is a nice idea, this is a shot at the people who are saying a ban is coming.

why ban people who are only going to be more likely to buy DLC? it's not a financially good idea for MS.

I kind of agree too ... I don't see a ban coming anytime soon. This has been going on for QUITE awile now and not too sure why a HACKING site is reporting it on front page news but ohh well.

Some answers

- Can you be banned? No one knows for sure. It is speculated (and most definate) MS can see this security code and could easily blacklist the drive's security sector from LIVE access. I have yet to see or hear about a ban yet.

- Can I use it for DLC and stuff? Of course. It acts like the original in every way.

This is kinda old, already done this.
And you wont get banned with this. At least I havent, yet
And still running fine.

Do you think that was wise Taft, you just said you have swapped your hard-drive, on this forum, and you are displaying your XBOX Live Tag name....on the bottom of your message, if anyone from microsoft reads that, they will make a example of you, and Ban you......Think about it......:(

I did this already and have a nice 120Gb drive on my 360 for pennies on the dollar of what MS charges

Why do people keep saying "this is old news" all the bloody time to certain articles. Even if it is old news, its new to some people, me in fact, not that im interested in doing it, but it was interesting nevertheless.

My guess is because we ... it's OLD NEWS ..

This is a news site .. it should be reporting NEW news not stuff over a year old.

That's like saying you where happy your local newspaper re-reported an old story because maybe someone missed it a year ago.
