Achievement "hacking" tutorial

Warning: This is not actually hacking, its more a profile edit and is easy detectable if u ask me, so use at own risk. Ur score will most likely be reset and banned from xbox live so use at own risk

Enjoy while it lasts.




First u need a hex editor and a con resigner wich allows u to resign the edited profile.

Works with a new profile only because ur profile is only used for dashboard references and its not how u properly hack achievements. So make one. If u wanna be able to continue hack achievements with it, keep a backup of ur profile u just created with no games played at all. Then load up a game on it, OFFLINE.

Now get ur profile, wich is stored at E005454545/FFFE07D1/00010000/E005454545 for example

Now open it with a hex editor, I use Hex workshop V5

Type in the game u loaded, for example moto gp, u can search for it using the search button and use these settings.

Now, the highlighted stuff here, is the place where u the timestamp comes. Right before the timestamp comes, is the value of ur achievement in hex, wich can be calculated with a hex calculater to normal decimal numbers wich u can download or just use one online here: http://www.statman.info/conversions/hexadecimal.html

So in this example, the achievement is worth 10 gamerpoints. Its actually irrevant but just so u know. 2 spaces further where u see the blue 00, is the place that tells if the achievement is unlocked online or offline. Lets do the offline one first

On the place where the 00 is, u edit it to 12, and it will show up unlocked offline, always!!

Now for datestamps, u can use ur profile and look for an achievement u allready unlocked online and then just copy paste, example in red:

So instead of 12, u now have 13, wich means unlocked online and other time information. 03 is last years.




After ur done editing whatever u want, just resign it with a con resigner, I use Consign. U might need a keyvault wich u can find anywhere I guess.

It will look like this offline without the game played, u will get the pic when u log into live. For example :

I posted about it like 3 months ago. Dont see why u or anyone else should get even get small credit for it as I was the first to bring it out in public and gave guidelines back then. Not thats its worth that much of credit as its basic anyway.But now just today cuz no one posted a fully guide, I thought I would, to give ms some headache for at least a while. the drives were never detected.. no one ever got banned for playing originals on a hacked drive :P

The real kicker is that this was actually done almost 2 years ago and has since evolved into a GUI app that lets you pick-and-choose which achievements to unlock and in which order, with proper achievement icons and so on. No, names won't be mentioned and none of the individuals behind it care about public credit/recognition. Achievements are just the tip of the iceberg as far as some of the interesting/devious things that are able to be done to profiles.

Offline achievements are not timestamped and are 100% undetectable by Microsoft. This has been evidenced not only by the individuals originally responsible for the discovery, but by the multitude of others that have made use of it privately. You'd be astounded if you knew how many out of the top 100+ on the global leaderboards have made use of some of the public and private methods for doing so. The ones that have gotten caught are the ones who've erroneously done some or all of the online achievements in offline form, who've unlocked bugged/glitched/impossible-to-get achievements, or who've unlocked a huge amount of achivements in an impossible amount of time. The ones that have been careful in doing it -- only doing offline achievements, unlocking in legitimate order, and so forth -- are the ones who've been doing it and will continue to do it without issue.

And for the bubble-burster -- Hacked online achievements *are* detectable. Sure you can fudge the timestamps and the online/offline flag, but all online achievements can be cross-referenced with live logs of when your profile was online, when a particular game was booted and when an achievement was actually unlocked while online. Yes, Microsoft records all of that, make no mistake about that fact. Yes, this fact has been tested on a small scale. Yes, the profiles were detected and subsequently had their GS zeroed-out, and in a few cases faced permanent suspension.

Because the private methods for doing this are a lot more elegant and refined (and thorough), I can't attest to whether doing it the manual way described in this thread is detectable or not based on the fact that it doesn't properly associate the achievement icon. If anything, if you're going to attempt to do it in this fashion, I would suggest first doing some more exploration into correctly associating the icons. Microsoft could potentially scan a profile for this on sign-in to detect these missing associations.

Normally I wouldn't go incognito for a post, but there's a bit too much at risk with respect to this.

If u got a console with an older dashboard, the one where arcade games show up and there score they got rid of in latest update... Well, u can load up a trial game and max out the gamerscore like on a full arcade game.

I agree that hex editing to unlock achievements is bogus. If a lot of people started doing this I can see MS checking up on people that have a large burst of unlocked achievements. A perfect example of an easy way to detect them is with the example given on this thread. The Ooh Rah achievement in Battlefield Bad Company is for earning half of the awards in the multiplayer game...yet the Get Me Started achievement for playing your first on-line match is still locked.

I'm not saying this would automatically get flagged by MS, but it could by EA, which also tracks stats. Even if it wasn't flagged, if your account was reviewed it would be some pretty clear cut evidence that you were the cheat.


On a side note...hex editing can be fun. I remember changing all of my Street Fighter Alpha 3 pre and post game text conversations with a simple hex edit...and let's just say my Street Fighter characters had a potty mouths compared to the pre hex edited ones. ;-)

You know, you're exactly right -- the system does in fact record the timestamp for an achievement regardless of it being online/offline. Thank you for pointing that out, and I admit that I completely neglected to pay mind to the timestamp bytes, instead taking for face value the (misleading) way it's detailed in the SDK docs:

That being said, I humbly retract my "100% undetectable" claim. If done without proper and reasonably spaced out timestamps, this definitely could be detectable.

The fairly obvious reason why Microsoft doesn't make use of or display the timestamps for offline achievements is that when offline, a user's system could be set to any date/time -- intentionally or unintentionally. As such, that timestamp cannot be trusted since it's solely client-side, whereas when an achievement is unlocked online, the timestamp can be verified by the host (live).

Actually, now I'm a bit curious as to whether or not any form of verification occurs when unlocked online -- if it takes the client-side system timestamp as-is or substitues it with a timestamp from the host, and if locale/DST/etc. comes into play at all. I'm going to experiment a little with a few done online before and after midnight to see if they're adjusted at all and if GMT/DST/etc. factors into it.

What you need is a good con resigner, check blueshadowz.info for one. Load your save within it to get your id's then click resign

I joined that site just now, got the resigner and one of the hacked saves instead. Now I have a person with 2 billion 500 gold and 999999 points. Also I have all items and concept art like I had before. That's way better than getting my save to work again.:D

Now get ur profile, wich is stored at E005454545/FFFE07D1/00010000/E005454545 for example

Now open it with a hex editor, I use Hex workshop V5

Type in the game u loaded, for example moto gp, u can search for it using the search button and use these settings.

Now, the highlighted stuff here, is the place where u the timestamp comes. Right before the timestamp comes, is the value of ur achievement in hex, wich can be calculated with a hex calculater to normal decimal numbers wich u can download or just use one online here: http://www.statman.info/conversions/hexadecimal.html

So in this example, the achievement is worth 10 gamerpoints. Its actually irrevant but just so u know. 2 spaces further where u see the blue 00, is the place that tells if the achievement is unlocked online or offline. Lets do the offline one first

On the place where the 00 is, u edit it to 12, and it will show up unlocked offline, always!!

Now for datestamps, u can use ur profile and look for an achievement u allready unlocked online and then just copy paste, example in red:

So instead of 12, u now have 13, wich means unlocked online and other time information. 03 is last years.




After ur done editing whatever u want, just resign it with a con resigner, I use Consign. U might need a keyvault wich u can find anywhere I guess.

It will look like this offline without the game played, u will get the pic when u log into live. For example :

Because that would require actual research and more than just copy and paste. And the saves vary from game to game.

That would require "hacking" the saves, which would probably get them in trouble with Microsoft as they are a company making profit.

Sorry to be a pain, Thanks for the tut and all but, After I hex and do all the stuff, I go to resign with con resigner and it says resign complete. I put it back on my xbox. And it when i go to profiles, it changed to corrupted data. What am i doing wrong? Has the update blacked my resigners? Ive tried 3 different ones, all public ones.

As stated previously above, you need to use xSATA to connect your 360HDD to your PC. It's too costly for achievement hacking IMO. But to each his own. Good luck.
