View Full Version : Modchip for Version 18 - SCPH 90004?

I recently bought a Playstation 2, and naturally I wanted a chip in it.
I was told however, by the guy who was supposed to do the soldering, that the version was too new - there weren't any instructions on how to solder that particular version.
He said that they would probably turn up sooner or later.

My question is now this: How long does it usually take before instructions such as these appear, and are there any risk of them not appearing at all?

It's a Playstation 2 Version 18 - SCPH 90004 - PAL-version.

Any help/advice would be appriciated.
Thanks in advance!

forget about a modchip and use freemcboot 1.6

Well, if I understand Free MC Boot correctly, I would need to run the application every time I wanted to use a imported game, or the like..?
I really like the way a chip allows me to forget all about the modding, and concentrate on the games ;).

Anyway, I haven't got any way to transfer data into a memory card...

I don't mind waiting, or paying a little extra, in order to get a chip installed - it's just that I would like to know how long I have to wait, and if I'm waiting in wain.

Yes you can install a modchip on that series of PS2

Plus I have seen discussion on the psx-scene.forum

Thanks for the answer!

I have, however, traded my 90004 version in for a older one, so now it's not a problem anymore.

Thanks again - you guys are great!

McBoot 1.7 dont work on 90004

Well actually it does on some and not on others. If it was one of the early releases then it does work, but not on the later releases as Sony changed the Bios in the later ones.

But you won't know that until you try it.

All the SCPH 9000x who had the Date Code 8b FMCB could be launched on, the other ones who had 8c FMCB is not working.

The Date Code is to the right of the Serialnr.

thanks windrider, i did tried both versions after formatting MC after each failure to run.

Any do you have any links for mod chip installation on 90004 as i've asked a friend to get me one, but it would take him 6-7 days to come back to my small town.

What type of modchip are you getting? Be easier to find you links if one knows the chip.

What type of mc did you use to install fmcb, I guess it doesn't matter now if you are getting a modchip.

don't know what kind of mod-chip i'll get, the friend who might bring one for me is using matrix infinity on his ps2.

I installed it on 8MB MC, don't know if its a genuine or a cheap one ?

Where exactly can I find this?
I do have found:

Unit: SCPH-90004
browser: 1.40
cd-player: 2.00
ps driver: 3.11E
mac address: 00:1F:17:67:37:95

On my PS2, it is on the back of the PS2, so it may be on the back or on the bottom.
It will be near the SCPH-90004 I think. Somewhere there you should find it.

You can install Matrix or modbo on the 9000x models.

Modbo 745 or modbo 760 are just Matrix clones, but are very good.
