Now that the Wii update has stopped Freeloader working - is there any other way to play US backups on a PAL machine?

Yes, you can run GeckoOS or one of the sytem menu hacks to load out of region games. You'll need some way of running homebrew though. Install using TP hack if you haven't already got HBC installed.

Go with GeckOS at the moment as it has better video mode compatibility but eventually you might want to look at Menuloader or Starfall once they have video mode patches in there (they already block updates though, which is a good start). Menuloader and Starfall also allow region-free channels.

Thanks again chaps :)

Shame that my version of TP is the US one so I can't get the twilight hack to work until I grab a EU version of that. Away to look :)

I beg your pardon.....

So you have a PAL console but the US version of TP.....

Can't you just use the US savegame on your PAL console to run the hack. As far as I was aware you just needed to match the savegame to the region of the game you are playing. Not the console.

I thought you needed to load TP first to load the save game?

Anyway, managed to get a copy of the PAL TP should ready to give the whole homebrew scenea try over the weekend.

Many thanks again for all the advice and pointers - very much appreciated.

You do need to load TP first to load the savegame, but since you have a way to play backups (I assume from your first post you do) and the US version of TP (why would you have this if you own a PAL console and can't play import games) I thought you could easily get round it. Oh well, glad to see you now have what you need.

I could play backups before the Wii firmware was updated - so the US TP worked fine before. As you say, got everything now to get HB working over the weekend. Thanks again for all the help matey.
