Pacther: Xbox 360 outsold PS3 in July

Well known gaming analyst Michael Pacther believes that the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 in July, estimating a sell through of 275,000 Xbox 360's and 250,000 PS3's consoles.


This increase in 360 sales represents a stark contrast from Microsoft's struggle to sell 219,800 units in the month of June, and if it can be attributed to a lower priced 360 then perhaps they would be wise to follow through with the rumoured "real" price drop this holiday. You'll find Michael Pachter's full statement concerning the sales of all three consoles below.

"We estimate sell-through of 650,000 Wii, 275,000 Xbox 360 and 250,000 PS3 consoles. Our console sell-through forecasts reflect our belief that supplies for Wii hardware were steady this month (we expect a supply increase to hit the U.S. in August), and our belief that Xbox 360 hardware sales grew in the month due to recent clearance pricing for the Xbox 360 Pro (20Gb) to $299 from $349."

**** Japan, there are bigger markets to make money. What is it with people and Japan, the PS3 is doing piss poor in Japan, so MS have no chance. Our little jap friends are into there handhelds, just look at the sales figures and if it aint anime **** they aint intrested.

its out sold the PS3 on july for 2 reasons & they are :

1- gamers rushed out to buy all the remaining Benq based xbox360 consoles in the market because they knew the Lite On wont be hacked for some time maybe never.

2- the fragile console costs 50% less than the cheapest PS3 bundle available (cheaper than a Wii).:D


july & maybe 1 or 2 more months will be their last best months until next gen of consoles.:)

Well this is odd. You would expect the ps3 would have outsold xbox 360 since it had its biggest name game to date release (mgs4). So if mgs4 couldnt push ps3 passed xbox 360 sales, then its clear microsoft upcoming price cuts next month are going to scare the piss out of sony.

Gotta feel bad for ps3 owners though. Why buy a 40 gig sku when its getting closed out? Why buy the 80 gig sku when its gonna be $100 cheaper in a few months. I doubt the ps3 firmware issues recently really hurt sales. I just think its a bad time to buy a ps3 when you know in a couple months its gonna be cheaper. Much like it was dumb to get a launch ps3 when in a year it came down $200 in price.

MGS4 was released in june. and PS3 handed xbox its ass in june too. Only big game in July was soul calibur IV

I have no reason to doubt the estimates of hardware sales. This is only one region so of no point to anyone except Americans. Its worldwide that counts to me for a big picture of where things are going. And the slight better 360 sales has part to do with the cheaper 20gb sale to a certain extent.

We will only really see in my eyes in the xmas run in how good 360 sales will be.

sony also said rumble was last gen.... we see how that worked out. They just say that crap because the know fanboys will believe it. They dont want people to say "well crap its coming down $100 dollars in 2 months ill just wait". They would rather someone say "crap i should have waited until the price cut before buying this".

Sony 1 day before they cut price on the 60 gig model told the press there wasn't gonna be a price cut. The next day...price cut.
