heya there,
ok so I bought my Wii today (£150 on offer at Asda Living stores at the moment). I've had plenty experience with modding 360s (but just soft flashes etc)
I'm now just looking at the different modchips and my mind is blowing a gasket :) It doesnt help when things like D2Pro9 and D2CPro etc are so similarly named.
I hope you can clear up a few things for me that keep throwing me off course.
1. I checked the Wii Tracker database and with my serial number (starting LEH1957) and I get
"There is a 50% chance that your drive chip is a GC2-D2C
There is a 50% chance that the pins on your drive chip are not cut."
So that's not too accurate for me :) Does this mean that its 50/50 to be a D2C and a D2B or 50/50 a D2C or a D2C2?? As this seems to determine strongly which chip I might need. So does this mean I MUST open up my case first to determine exactly which it is (something I didnt want to do as dont yet have a triwing and was going to get one at same time as ordering the chip (which I cant do not knowing exactly which version it is :)) especially as there's the likes of the d2pro9 v2 and v3 and will be stuffed if order the wrong one
2. I'm wanting to go the solderless route, as my hands are way too shaky from too much squinting when a youth ;). I believe that if I'm correct then I'll need to either get a D2Pro9 (9 wire version) or Argon as the main option. Now theres a couple of guys websites (not sure if I'm allowed to mention their sites but I believe they're members of this board), but they're offering bundles of the chip with the wii clip in various forms. Would I be correct in thinking that these are also presoldered onto the wiiclip already so only have to do the attaching? Now the thing that throws me off course, is a) for the wasabi chip it states that still need to solder 1 wire to the Wii, and b) it offers a choice of wire and/or solder to purchase with the kit. Why would that be needed if its solderless?
I was going to pay 75 to get a shop up in middlesbrough to mod this for me with solder, but they're not a very trustworthy shop, and also it seems from reading that these clips are probably more stable than the solderless methods in the old xbox1s so it'll be better to go this route I think :)
hope you guys can help so I can get ordering :)
cheers,
Tuck
ps. oh and lastly, is it worth getting the argon over the d2pro9 as I know thats meant to be fully programmable with a jtag (presuming it can be completely solderless for me too on mainboard)

Yes you will need to open it. Just be aware that with solderless the connection is not as secure as soldered and you may have trouble getting it to work and stay working.

thanks for the reply acemile.
guess I'll have to see if I can find a suitable screwdriver to open it then :( Was hoping that perhaps if it was a 50/50 split then one of the chips would have still covered both versions regardless

Hi.
Judging by your Serial you are more likely going to have a D2C2 chip.
I would get the solderless D2Pro 9 chip. I have used these chips with no problems at all.
Just make sure you put it on square before pushing it home, otherwise you will bend the little pins over and it wont work.
I use a couple of online stores to get my chips
Consolechips.com
Wii-chip.co.uk
Never had a problem with them :)
Hope this helps

you have a d2c chipset

get the d2pro9v2 (http://360upgrades.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11_2&products_id=2)

the d2pro9 is more stable than the aragon at the moment and you can update via dvd or d2programmer.

thanks didineedthis.
I'll get the d2pro9 v2 ordered from your site :) Only just noticed, now that you've specified that one, that the v2 and v3 both cover the d2c2, but only the v2 covers the d2c....so thats the safest one to get :)
I take I dont need any kynar wire on these versions seein as they're solderless, and would have only needed any if I needed the wasabi on a d2e.
Can't wait to have a go at putting it in :)
Now where'd I put the bloomin credit card
cheers,
Tuck

Sorry to hijack but I didn't want to create new thread asking a similar question.
I'm a newbie to this and have recently purchased a Wii with the interest of chipping it myself. According to the Wii tracker database the drive chip I have is D2B with the drive pins not cut (LEH1228xxx), I was wondering if anyone could suggest the best mod chip for me, I don't have any experience in soldering so would prefer a solderless chip.
Thanks in advanced.

hiya,
though I can't help you in what chip to get...honestly I can say, do not get a solderless.....I've had nothing but trouble trying to get it to work for more than 5 mins at a time. I did make a post asking for someone to help me in my area and remove the duff wiiclip and solder the chip directly for me, but its been removed...I guess there is a rule about not requesting modding :(
But in a nutshell, since mine arrived this morning and following all instructions verbatim, mine worked once every 5 or 6 times, for about 5mins before failing....suspect bad connections....and not too surprised really considering how teeny the connections actually are. After so many attempts to get it to stay working, I've goosed the wiiclips pins (nearly certain), so its now out of machine.
I'm sure you could get the chip by itself, and find someone to solder it in for you.....you'll prob find its even more hassle, costly and time consuming if you try using that clip (sorry...but that clip is on my nerves at the mo) - I don't blame the seller btw, just bad product being the clip. Anyone pm me if you can help ;) I live in north east of UK

once you have your chip in position and working put some hot glue on the corners , your chip has become worn , most people do not have a problem with the clips , i have sold hundreds and only a handful have had a problem, mainly due the clip becoming loose .this is due to how many time you take the clip on and off, you need to get it positioned right in the first couple of attempts, one thing you are right about is getting a solder job done, i have soldered hundreds of chips and i have never had a problem once the chip is installed , the clip will never be as reliable as a soldered chip, but when a clip is installed and working they work fine for most. press the chip down and put some hot glue on the corners and hold it in place until the glue has set , then you should be fine, if that fail we can always solder the chip in.
