View Full Version : Team Xecuter looking at hacking new Liteon 360 drive
Team Xecuter has confirmed that they are looking into the hackability of the new Liteon 360 drive based on a barrage of requests from would-be 360 hackers. They seem pretty confident about finding a solution although ask C4eva to let them know if he's made any progress in order not to waste their time with it.
As you are probably aware we retired from making Xbox modchips some time ago and have only made a few add-ons for the 360 here and there. However we have been barraged with requests regarding the new Liteon drive.
So we're being sent a couple and have agreed to at least have a look. We'd prefer there to be some flashing solution of course then the FW guys could do what they do best, however it looks like a read only masked rom. From what we can see atm there is nothing that looks any more complicated than the original Xbox hacking we did, so we'll see what we can do. The motivation hasn't been there for a long time but maybe this will kick us in the ass like the old days
Note: C4EVA may have made some progress so if he needs anything from us or if we will be wasting our time - just get him to drop us a line - thanks.

Why does everyone always think it's C4EVA who is the custom firmware guru.
He is the person who released it to the scene, he didnt do all the work in the first place.

Personally the real scene hereos are the coders that do it for free like Dark Alex and C4E etc.
However I'm under no illusion that there is a lot of hard work involved. If it were p!ss simple everyone and their dog would have done it.
If Xecuter released a solution and it cost a few quid I wouldn't give a damn. If they put the ground work in and made the investment then so what if they charge a few quid. Xecuter chips for the original Xbox were by no means the cheapest but I must admit I always favoured them. With all the chips for consoles there is a lot of ripping off (or at least borrowing) of other teams code. I'm sure Xecuter have capitalized on the work of others and I'm sure if Xecuter released a "solution" first others would in turn rip off their work. I'm sure many people will do well out of a commercial solution, but like I say, if you put in the work and you invest in the product then who can blame you for wanting a return.
As much as I love the work of D_A C4E etc, if the solutions they come up with were hardware based... could they still do it for love? As much as I'd like to think they would... I doubt it would ever see the lightof day.
I've used Passkeys so that will tell you I don't mind paying for a hardware solution, I certainly respect the fact that Maximus had made a few quid even IF he knew that a software solution was possible. Of course I'm not stupid however and have since moved on to Podgers soft unlock. I don't begrudge Maximus a single penny though so who cares if Xecuter release a hardware mod and make a few quid. If you're too tight for the genuine article I'm sure someone else will rip it off inside a couple of weeks and bang it out at half the price.

Not going to hold my breath like the rest of you folks. Don't know if you all have noticed, but xecuters solutions are usually follow along some months later after someone else has figured out the hard parts. Yeah, they had bloody great chips - but if they had been the only ones doing the work that allowed them to profit we'd be holding our breath waiting on their first xbox mod - still.
So yeah, if you want a quality implementation of an already found solution go with xecutor - if you want false hopes believe in anything they say is "coming." Of course, I do hope they prove me wrong (for the rest of you) - I for one would like to upgrade my box when the next GPU die is issued to retail, but that's not something I'm interested in doing if the DVD drive noise is at retail levels.
