View Full Version : SEGA: Sonic criticism is probably warranted
Sega's vice president of marketing has revealed that he believes some of the criticism surrounding Sonic is probably warranted. He went on to explain the team is always look at innovation and Sega just can't stand still with Sonic.
Sega of America's Vice President of Marketing Sean Ratcliffe commented, "Some of that criticism is probably warranted. We definitely recognize that a franchise that has been going as long as Sonic, you really have to put a huge amount of effort in to make sure that you maintain that quality, and arguably a disproportionate amount of effort. However, I would say we recognize it, which is why you're seeing us this year taking the first steps in making sure the quality is right, and we're constantly looking at innovation. We can't just stand still with Sonic; we've got to be looking at different ways to develop the character, different genres, and so on."

Yes so now you must downgrade the gameplay to 2D... I miss Sonic 1 and 2 on the dreamcast... This industry has no room for passionless developers. Please leave the Sonic franchise, the only thing you can do is more damage.

Have you no shame? The 2D era was a cream of beauty and fun easy to get into, hard to perfect games. Lemme guess you started on the PS1 or Dreamcast and never had the pleasures of 2D.
Sonic going back to 2D roots is a huge blessing for the Sonic franchise. It was where he was in his prime for his speed never quite fit in a 3D realm where he was hounded by bad cameras, touchy controls, poor homing, and many leaps of death. Just look at the 2D Sonic Rush games, they are easily great fun and show a polish 3D sonic has lacked... even in Adventure.
The Sonic team has been pressed with 2-year development cycles where they were rushed and could never reach quality. They have a longer cycle to work and seem to be pulling out the stops AND unlike the demo's from the past few Sonic games this one doesnt look like s*** right out of the box and holds promise.
And sadly... this industry is flooded with passionless developers that put out for only a quick buck. (3rd party wii games anyone?) Hopefully there is difference between being rushed and being passionless.

sega should have never gone full 3d with sonic, they have damaged the series so bad with its last game and its horrible, horrible controls, I think I will never try another sonic game again, thanks for putting sonic on life support sega, I hope he gets the antidote he needs.

Mario works well in 3d because its easier to judge distance when every move you make is at the same snail paced fat ass motion.
All sonic games have had stupid speed involved. This works in 2d because you can easily judge when to stop moving as your playing side on so you can see when your precisly over the platform or whatnot. In 3D you'll alwies be geussing because you cant see, as Sonic himself is in the way. Usinga 1PV wouldnt fix this either as the persective would mess things up.
This is also why the 3D Worms games suck cocksickles compared to the 2D ones, and why games such as Burnout wouldnt work if you had to turn on more than 1 Axis, IE Burnout as a flight sim through canyons and stuff, sure it'd look cool but it would handle horribly, the same fate as all other "true" 3D Hypserspeed games.
