Bethesda: Fallout 3 is better than oblivion, no doubt about it

Bethesda's Pete Hines believes there can be no doubt that Fallout 3 wipes the floor with Oblivion. He noted that at its core and for everything around it, it simply is a better game than the highly praised Oblivion.


"I have no doubts in my mind that, at its core and for everything that it provides that Fallout is a better game than Oblivion was. For sure...I don’t have any doubts that on the whole, and I think this is a belief universally shared on the team that Fallout is a better game," said Pete.

I read some interviews from Bethesda on another site. It sounds like they are adding some unique stuff to this game (as well as some that Oblivion players might be familiar with).

i put a good 140+ hours on that game, it was absolutely amazing! still the best RPG for the 360, hands down. mass effect was like Fable for the 360, hyped up and short lived.

i still find myself starting new characters, three years later.

Oblivion is or was crap it loads every 10 seconds or so the battle system is lame its just boring my son played that game for months i just don't get the appeal of it oh well to each there own im more of a gta sports guy but ill try fallout 3 or any other game

Couldn't agree more. I really enjoyed both oblivion and shivering isles as well and have high hopes that fallout 3 is gonna be better. Its always good to hear things are shaping up nicely and they are out doing what the previously did. I cant wait to play this.

I have put over 2000+ hours into that game and there is a reason why, well, there's about 100 reasons why but I'll just name a few. First off you cant bash a game because your goofs only play it on 360 or PS3 and don't have a decent PC, do you have any idea what kind of replay value oblivion has on the PC with all the mods. Limitless. Second CAN YOU name a game with less linearity than Oblivion? Don't even fucking try because you can't. Hm, ok, you want a list of reasons about why Oblivion was a letdown? Let's start with the biggest one: Morrowind.

In almost every category (except graphics), Morrowind was superior to Oblivion. Oblivion was like Morrowind with 1.5 types of terrain, half the guilds and quests, and instanced, walled cities that meant they had to drop support for some types of magic, like flying spells.

If I had never played Morrowind, I can imagine Oblivion being quite the sandbox experience. However, as someone who has played Morrowind, and other similar games like System Shock 2, I felt it was dumbed down quite a bit.. Not a bad game on its own, but it was a regression, and I don't want to regress.

So, yeah, I hope Fallout3 moves in a direction that doesn't make the assumption that gamers are getting dumber over time.

IMO oblivion doesnt plz all general public gamer is the silly 1st person combat or 3rd person that matter. The only game that make 1st person combat shine is the Condemned series. The only thing i like about oblivion is you can kill any1 as you plz.

That's great, and that's your opinion. I happen to really like the game and have played 200+ hours of Oblivion. But calling these guys idiots morons, goofs, idiots and telling them they have 0 attention span, and to kill themselves and to stfu because they don't like the same game as you?

You need to calm down dude. People are entitled to their own opinions. Oblivion is a real hit or miss kind of game and I too was with that crowd that played for 4 hours or so and left the game. It wasn't until I got sick of some other games that I went back to Oblivion and LOVED it.

Trust me, this is not the place to try to get people to believe in the same things you do. It's worse than a political debate in here because there is just as much arguing, but with less intelligence and l33t speak. Some people don't care about anything except their Wii/PS3/360 and there is no changing them...

Oblivion was a good/great game in my opinion, and I completed the main quest. The reason it disappointed me was the fact that it had levelled loot/items/NPCs. I think most oblivion fans would agree with me. It had so much more potential than what was given.

Anyone playing oblivion for the first time now should download the great mods that make this game great. Go to the forum on elderscrolls.com and download the biggest mods like OOO and Fran - those will make the game become what it should have been. Unfortunately much of the games fun is spoiled if you completed it on vanilla first.

The greatest RPG of all time IMO (except maybe system shock 2 which I havent played) is Gothic 2.

I have 3 hours into Oblivion, not interested... I'm a fallout fan for the last 10 years though. I've played through all of the games several times (except BoS, only once), the van buren release of original fallout 3 that was canned and even some home made mods for fallout 2.

Fallout 3 should damn well be better than Oblivion. If it's not, they're ruined an amazing IP.
