so if they reported Mario Kart on a flashcart would brick your ds using an older version of flashme, does that mean the mario kart release is out there already?
And what would happen if you try to launch mario kart ds with a normal passme?

I think it's just a problem with FlashME interfering with the WiFi things of Mario Kart so theay have changed it that you can play online.... So I think it's no big deal ^^'
But hey... what's this FlashME Stealth file? What's this for a version?

Someone got a hold of a pre-release copy (likely a official dev cart) of mario kart for review on one of the game sites/stores. No, they arent going to release it.
Mario Kart wrote over some of flashme in the firmware causing flashme'd DS's to become useful like a brick, this V5 is "more compressed" to not have an critical data in the areas the game wrote over. Apparently DS stores some wifi settings in the firmware when you first use the wireless demo or real cart.
The "stealth" version: it is the same, only it does not change the health screen when you turn on the ds. It acts like an origional DS but has all the ability of a flashme'd DS.

Since I've used a previous version of flashme (Actually, I had ahead games do it), will I have to bridge the SL1 contacts during the flash...?
Also, I would almost rather use the stealth version, so the bootup screen is still there... any danger in going from the 'non-stealth' version to the stealth one...?

Well, that was fun :D
I reflashed my DS with the new 'stealth' file. Went ahead and pressed XBXB, and realized I was gonna have to short it.. so after 5 minutes of freaking out and trying to find something to jam in there, as well as calming down enough to bridge the contacts, I finally got it.
Don't know if I want to try that again!

You have to bridge SL1 to upgrade to the new version, I hope you didn't have to pay ahead games for the previous flashing.

No problem there, altough I don't see why you would want to wait a few seconds and have to touch the screen each time you turn on your DS in normal mode, but that's up to you.

Yes... I paid them the first time I had flashme installed. But their service was actually pretty good, I think it took 8 days once it was shipped to get it back. I didn't have any method of booting the upgrade before anyway (No Passme or Wifime)
Oh well. Its done with now. Just glad I found out about it before trying Mario Kart!

So will Mario Kart work with a superpass then? i don't got the balls to flash it

Wait so you have to open your ds system to flash it? I thought you just need a passme and a gba flashcart with the flashme file on it?

I am confused. We are taking this ONE GUY'S word that Mario Kart DS bricks your DS if it's flashed with an older flashme? And someone somehow updated the FlashME to work with Mario Kart even though no one has the rom except for one guy on earth? Did I get that right? That doesn't make sense from MANY angles.

No I wasn't "bitter" at all (why would I be bitter?) I was just confused. I can't believe Nintendo is so anti piracy they are willing to destroy your DS over it.
I will flash it I guess when Mario Kart comes out. I am gonna be paranoid to put any new game on it without flashing a new update first!
(Also the flashme site doesn't say anything at all about a new version. Should we just update to the version that's there now?)

i just updated just so u know though, i was forced to reshort my sl contacts. not sure if it was a fluke for me but be prepared just in case

nope no fluke... you must short because it rewrites the protected data with the failsafe just incase a unwanted program tries to rewrite the firmware... like that ds bricker... it allows you to boot from gba cart incase your ds was bricked...

Presumable the noflashme.nds file is an original firmware?
Why are the filesizes so different?

Nintendo didn't do this intentionally, they planned to use that section of the firmware long ago. FlashMe just happened to use a part of the firmware that was reserved for future use.
You don't have to fully open the DS to short the points. You just have to remove the battery cover and peel back a sticker (easy to put back).
Noflashme is larger because it contains different versions of firmware, so it can restore the right one for your DS.
There's more than 40 people who have MKDS (employees, press, friends of both). It's all been tested.

Does this new firmware work on the newer DSes or are they impossible to flash? Also I wish the flashme website kinda let you knew a new version is out. What do they do just update all the links to a newer version? You can't tell anywhere from looking at that site that it's been updated to work with Mario Kart.

It works with newer DS (blue, red, any recently made DS) but to actually install it, you need PassMe 2 (http://natrium42.com/shop/), a GBA flash device with SRAM and a game in the list on that site. M3 are making a PassKey 2 but it's not out yet.
I don't know why he doesn't make it obvious that FlashMe has been updated but it's been posted on other forums and IRC many times, so probably didn't think it was important. It is actually version 5, not 3 like this topic says.

But wait isn't the whole reason to use FlashMe is so you don't have to use a PassMe?

Yes but the only way of running flashme.nds is if you can already run NDS code. On old NDS firmware versions, it's possible to launch flashme using wifiMe, so you don't actually need a passMe but that doesn't work on new DS models.

I just took a look at the PassMe2 site. It says it work with all DS models, but
"Note: PassMe2 can not be used to play illegal DS games! It's only good for homebrew demos/games."
True? I wanna buy a DS, but be sure i can use my SC.
Help! ;-)

Got my DS bricked hlaf an hour ago after download playing MK on a game fair.
I did get it to boot Hexen DS off the flashcart if i pressed A+B+Start+Select, then i got a screen full of noise, after which pressing "Start" got Hexen to work.
Edit:
Got it to work Flashme's anti brick method. It caused the problem but then fixed it, but i'm relieved i didn't lose 200$ (yes, it was imported).

U take the battery lid of, remove the little rainbow patch, poke a screwriver in there, scratch of the first virnish layer by moving it around a lot scratching the surface and then it will eventually short and numbers will start moving
whackawookie

everything u said was goods except scratching a layer of virnish off. I didnt do any scratching but i did use the screwdriver technique. Just glance in the hole as you put the screwdriver in and make sure you bridge the contacts.
