I have a 1 gb sandisk....

I often find that I have to format my memstick after backin it up of course due to some weird issue where my available space is way off..... usually a couple 100 megs or so... its like somesort of fragmentation prob.

what gives?????

I never have problems with mine. If you have file space issues just do a scandisk on it, I've had to do that on my ipod from time to time.

i've had mine for about 2 weeks now and i haven't had no problems like that, for some reason when i had the 512 card i was increasingly losing the odd mb or so over the weeks - i'd make a ripped ISO of Spiderman or Tiger Woods that fitted on fine and then when i tried it a few months later i couldn't fit it on at all - someone said this is normal with some memory that constant usage can lose the odd mb here and there ... thats so gay, is it true? and does someone have a better description of why it does that.

If you load and play different games from your memory card then you could be filling it up with "save games" ..... i know my saved games folder is 15 meg now and growing .

I haven't had any loss of space on my memory stick... in fact, I have never heard of this before.

You'll find that a lot of hard drives do that, particularly on older operating systems, but it's simply files not being deleted fully and leaving **** data behind, it's one of the reasons why MS introduced the disk cleanup and defragging tools with Windows.

It shouldn't happen on a memory stick, but if it does, then a simple format should always sort it out, if that doesn't work, then the stick is physically faulty.

i thought the same, i thought it could be my saved games - but its not even that - when you defrag the stick it would appear to have a red section (which is untouchable or something, i cant remember) but the stick was losing mbs for some reason

no skin off my teeth ... i sold it long ago anyways :D
