Modifying Saves

Just wanted to make a thread to ask people to try and modify saves using tools such as hex editors.

Its a trial and error basis where you have a save for a particular game i.e. oblivion and you change certain things within that save for example offset 0x00004100 to something else, causing the game to think the player has 1000 health etc.

I am asking people from here and various places to report there findings. Like changing certain values within the save to make the game think they have better attributes than they should.

*all saves should be resigned using a con resigner to allow them to work on an xbox.

this would be a great utility for gamesavers who like to enjoy games from the start with an advantage :D

Ive been modifiying all the saves i can get a hold of that are worth editing. Here is the list of things ive edited and the results

Halo- obviously works
Enchanted arms- Works
Dead Risings- Corrupted file no matter what hasher and signer i used
Ninja Gaided II - same as dead rising
Orange box- Works
Castlevania:SON - Works
DOAX2: Was able to give myself 1000gs save and a secret "nude suit" that i was able to force Zack into giving me.
Gamer Profile - Wouldnt recommend it.


Most of my edits were pretty basic. Doax2 i think is the only 1 i had look at a gamesave further then mine to figure out a few things. :P Always remember to convert your numbers into hex before doing a search for them.

profile - epic reset from microsoft
save - havent you ever used action replay or some other cheat device? Wouldnt you want to run around with unlimited health in some games and still earn achievements, or having the best weapon at the beginning of a game? - all possibilites...

Modifying profiles has been going on for some time now. Pointless indeed if you dont want a ban or a reset. But I was talking about modifying saves and not the actual profile of a user.

For people who actually want to do this sort of thing from scratch I would suggest learning what changes inside a profile when an achievement is unlocked. Compare this info to a profile without the achievement etc...

easiest way to do this is with a hex editor but is very tedious, you need patience and time....

i feel ya. i recently got the orangebox saveset from a caleb a few days ago and i noticed that i wasnt getting any damage taken away from me when i got hit,just stayed at 100.and now i hear about trainers saves for 360.now i know why i wasnt dying on half-life2 lol.

I already know how to force acheivments unlocked. And like you have been saying it is pointless.

it would be possilbe. if u could modify the game to think u actually scored 750k, or modify it so it believes that say 100k=750k or something. not sure how this whole thing works.

That requires the xex file from the DVD of the game... Then he uses the hypervision exploit on his box and he makes an achievement script for a bot to run that unlocks the achievements.

Oh and guess what? he has found a way to unlock the achievements with Date Stamps and he can set the time to whatever he wants. Meaning you could set the date for when you unlocked the GRAW leaderboards to when the game was launched and it would look completely legit.

I am not going to go into detail on how this is done but I will say that timestamps are not given out when you are on XBL =) They are within the system itself. they just register the flag that says "use timestamps".

Yeah. I havent decoded all the timestamp stuff yet but i already know the flag for if it was unlocked online or offline is. :P Offline achievments dont really use the timestamp info even though it seems to get recorded still.

Im trying to modify a soul calibur game save, its a 908k gamesave, so any help would be appreciated. I am now currently reading up on rehashing the SHA1 values within the saves. Anything else I should know about from people who have successfully modified saves?

I could give you a save, you work your magic, I test?? Please, i dont know where i've gone wrong.

I edit the data, get a new SHA1, put that into another table, get the new SHA1 for that, put that into another table, then get the new SHA1 from that. The paste that over the one at 0x381. Time consuming and the only thing I have to go off, is the info at free60.org and the halo rehashers, and thats slightly different.

I tested it my way without using any 'new data' just hashed the existing values to see if they matched, from there I went from point A -> D, and all data seemed correct, but when i did it with new data the game wouldnt load the save....

I would greatly appreciate any help...

:P honestly I didnt completely understand that. I just use shade's signer/hasher for most things. I have been trying to get a hold of shade for a more in depth talk about hashing and what not but he isnt on much.

I've been basically doing it manually with a hex editor, shades hasher only does smaller files...

Good luck with that. It wont take you long to get used to gamesave modding. Its all about finding out how they store their data. For example, on Oblivion they inverse thier data so that threw me and my friend off for a bit.

Pretty much exactly my line of thought.

I've been a code junkie for several generations of consoles, and it's mildly depressing that the latest push in achievements and digital distribution have made the ways of console cheats virtually non-existent.

I've only very recently gotten into 360 save modification, but the hex editor is kicking my butt. I haven't done static game file alteration since the mid-90s and ResEdit. CheatEngine has been my baby on the PC, but it's all memory alteration.

Definitely going to give the dishwasher tutorial a look, but any further instruction and advice for save game tweaking would be highly appreciated.

Sometimes it's more fun buying the most expensive gun on level 2 than unlocking achievements on a whim.

This goes for all save modding...

1) Open the save in a hex editor.
2) Search the save for your current in-game stats/values in hex (or whatever, just try everything).
3) When you find the values and you know they're right, change them and save the file.
4) Open the file in hash block calculator and rehash the file.

It's pretty easy actually. But some games do have checksums (security) though, and you'll need to find it and fix it before the save will work.

Try searching your Profile for the data. Sometimes games like to save important data to your Profile.
