An insider who GameSpot seem to really trust has told them that the new Halo game will be a spin off that resembles a cross between Ghost Recon and Gears of War and will reportedly tell a ""less cartoony" and "more bloody, violent, and grim" tale of a battle between UNSC forces and the pan-racial religious empire known as the Covenant."


According to the source, the new Halo game will be a spin-off that resembles "a cross between Ghost Recon and Gears of War." It will reportedly tell a "less cartoony" and "more bloody, violent, and grim" tale of a battle between UNSC forces and the pan-racial religious empire known as the Covenant. The game's atmosphere was described as similar to that of the live-action Halo shorts directed by South African filmmaker Neil Blomkamp (pictured), who was to helm the now-stalled big-screen adaptation of the game.

The source says the upcoming Halo game is a tactical shooter that will follow a squad of colonial marines or orbital drop shock troopers engaged in "intense" fighting on the ground. Gameplay details were scant, other than the fact it will reportedly allow gamers to play as an entire squad in co-op mode through the entire campaign. The exact number of co-op players has yet to be finalized, but it could be as high as eight. It is unclear if the new game is the same as the "Halo: Forerunner" project first rumored in 2006.

and dont forget metal gear acid is a card strategy game....not to mention metal gear solid 4 is the ONLY game that has been changed to a true 3rd person view. the other games were fixed camera overhead view (aside from the MGS3:substinence rerelease which added 3rd person camera to the original snake eater game).

besides....a game is a game. doesnt matter what viewpoint its from, as long as its good enough to warrant a purchase from me.....if u dont like it, dont buy it...simple :)

This is a smart move on Bungie's part since halo 1. The reason why most people prefer Halo as the best game in the trilogy is the deep and dark story. The covenant was fierce and we barely knew any secrets about them but in halo 2 and 3 we get into their little civil war... WRONG MOVE!

If you read the halo books the humans aka UNSC had no fighting chance against the covenant and even the most stragetic battle ended with the humans dieing. Halo 3 had one of the most cartoony endings ever the covenant and humans teaming pff comeon.

What halo needed like Halo 1 was a deep and dark story line as before... the covenant are irrational and they have no mercy slaughtering humans and Master Chief stands no chance of eliminating all the covenant but he has a slight fighting chance.

Lets pray that Bungie can recreate an excellent game like Halo 1 with the real HALO 2.

You can't exactly call "Halo Wars" an attempt at cashing in on the series, considering the fact that the original concept for Halo was for it to be an RTS. I remember waiting for "Halogen" (a mod for C&C: Generals) but it got a cease and desist from Microsoft and a little time later they revealed "Halo Wars".

Really? And how many fans were disappointed by the lack of innovation coming from Halo 3?

I've heard people (fans, even) referring to Halo 3 as Halo 2.5, and something tells me when they bought Halo 3, they wanted 3. Not 2.5.


Anyway, I love Gears of War, but I don't know how much I'll love a Halo version.

I'm looking forward to it. I love the Halo series, but like others have said, it wasn't brutal enough. Hopefully they'll add in some GoW-like badassness.:D
