The WSJ states that as early as Sunday, Microsoft will drop the price of the Xbox 360 pro by $50 to $299. So anyone who planned to buy an Xbox 360 today or tomorrow would be best off waiting!

Microsoft Corp. plans to cut the price on a popular model of its Xbox 360 game console in an effort to boost sales of the product in the face of stronger competition from rival Sony Corp., according to people familiar with the matter.

As early as Sunday, Microsoft, of Redmond, Wash., will drop the price on its $349 Xbox 360 Pro, a midprice version of the game console that comes with a 20-gigabyte hard drive, to $299, these people said. The lower price for the console is expected to be widely advertised in Sunday circular advertisements ...

uhm... youd be better off buying now from a place like bestbuy then going in after they drop the price and getting %110 of your difference :P

bestbuys policy is if you buy something and price drops you get %110

then again the $5 you'd get might be less then fuel cost youd use going there

this will be good for the poor people who travel on that outdated technology feet.

what about Europe? 299$ is equal to 191e, but here the pro still costs 279e.

I haven't heard of any numbers, but I haven't seen anyone on any forum I go who got the RRoD on the newer consoles (those with the HDMI port). While I still see plenty of people having the older model constantly getting the RRoD...

I'd say that the new consoles are much, much better than the older model. It uses less energy too, is more quiter and generates less heat (suposedly because of the new CPU (or GPU? I don't remember)...

Like I said, so far, I haven't seen or heard about anyone having one of the newer model getting the RRoD.

i think its pretty safe to say that the rrod issue has been cut down to a respectable level with the falcon boards. ive seen a couple but not really due to the normal reasons for rrod. 1 had a ram chip knocked off (on purpose im sure, it was a hitachi 79) and the other took a nasty fall. but then again falcon boarda are fairly new so lets not write it totally out just yet. and soon we'll have the jasper boards which should eliminate heat related rrod for good...........

buy from a place with a price guarantee. usually if they drop their own price within 2 weeks you can be refunded the difference. Don't wait until they are oos.

I have had 3 dead falcons with added heatsinks in the past week. 2 new units and one 'refurb/rrod repair unit' all less than 14 months old. These units are no better than the previous generation when push comes to shove - they still are failing... with summer and hot weather, RROD will be up. The 45nm jaspers should be out this fall though, along with the unmoddable Lite-On drives.

Also, bb only refunds you 10% of the difference, not total cost.. So you'd be looking at saving $5, so it would be $295 instead of $299 @ 110% (if they honor that) depending on their pricematch policy after purchase.

If you waited this long you miles well wait for the 60GB sku.

14 months? Are you sure they are falcons? Falcons just appeared on the market barely 8 months ago, and most people couldn't find one until 2008.
Repair units (without HDMI) won't be going 65nm until later this year.
The extra heatsink has been around forever.

lol.......... true falcons have 65nm cpu and 80nm gpu. and the temps are WAY lower than previous 360s. this WILL cut down the rrod numbers by ALOT. Eliminate heat related rrod forever? doubtful.....

Even if the shitty Xbox 360 is given for free, nobody will take it :(

The exit is that way ----> Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.
