View Full Version : The longest Xbox 360 repair in history - two years?
A gamer claims that he has perhaps suffered the longest Xbox 360 RRoD repair in history - a whole two years.
Now this is an odd case to say the least, but one that is still ridiculous. A member of the XBF forums posted today that he had just received his repaired Xbox 360 in the mail. Now this isn’t too uncommon. As many are aware, the 360 does quite a bit of traveling due to the dreaded “RROD”. But considering it took this particular gamer two years to get his console back, this has to be the worst repair turnaround in console history. Below are the gamer’s comments describing his situation:
“… It was the UPS guy so I thought "there my Halo 3 legendary Edition that won from the Xbox live play and win contest". It wasn't as big as the legendary box so I ask what it was and he said "Its an Xbox 360, well thats what most of these ship from this address". I was saying to myself "I got a new Halo 3 Xbox 360. I opened it up and ended up being my launch Xbox 360 that got RROD 2 years ago. the Manufacturing Date says 11-14-05. This xbox 360 I sent in the mail 2 years ago and I never got it back so while that happened I got a new 360 from best buys and that RRODed April 29, 2008. I got that back a couple weeks ago. Now I have 2 repaired Xbox 360s sitting in my room.
I just remembered I looked at my email last week and saw 3 emails.
-I have sent out a box to you [I dont remember getting a box]
-We have received you xbox 360 and is in repair center
-We have sent out your 360
I was saying to myself M$ must of screwed up with the email so I just forgot about it.
They owe me more than a 1 month subscription of XBL. Maybe $400 or a couple games. “

When I sent my second 360 for repairs they sent the replacement to the wrong state somehow(North Carolina, I live in New York) and it took me 4 months to get a 360 in my hands from sending it to getting it back, I even posted it in the RROD thread last year with the incorrect address and everything.
So, maybe its false maybe its not, nobody knows.

i dropped my car off at the dealership for a repair and got a ride home. couple weeks later i wondered where my car was so i went out and bought a new one.
couple years later the dealer calls and tells me to get my car its ready for pickup. what car is that? i own a car?
this guy is either a fucking retard (even people with heavy retardations have better memory) or is this bs? i call a little of both.

HOW does someone forget they sent something to a repair center?? let alone a $400 console?? and from reading the OP id say theres another retard on the board also (AJmon13).....unless things have changed AGAIN m$ sends you a BOX and packaging materials, AJmon13 on the same thread claims he paid $3.52 to ship his console from a Staples....i guess ill wait for the good ole' m$ pr folks to step in now and prove us all wrong on calling it B.S. or a UPS tracking #/information
p.s. reply #36 on the thread the originator of this story says
"You must
-take off the hard drive
-take out any games
-take off any custom face plates [original one fine]
-detach any accessories"
he forgot "remember tracking information or to check up on the situation maybe ~1 month+ after sending in"

Soo..
He sends it in... buys a new one without even checking on his old one... forgets he even sent it in, sends in another one without thinking "didnt I do this before"?....
Then says they owe him money for LIVE and games..
Why the games? did you make it a point to send them your collection of 360 games?
And you bought another 360 without blinking so why do they have to pay you money if its obvious money is of no concern to you..
This is a BS story, unless the kid was dropped on his head a couple times while this was going on and forgot about half the story also

I don't get it. Instead of following up with the delay and calling MS, he goes out and buys a new console? Either he's sitting on a pile of cash or he's a "unique" individual.

Unless he shows proof that the 360 really took that long to arrive to him this pretty much can be considered BS. I have sended a 360 two times to the repair center and both times it took 2 weeks to arrive to me.

Now that's funny and i think he is full of BS and a retard. Please stop posting this crap on this site its not true it would be on the news (REAL NEWS) if it was.
PS i got my 360 back 7 days from when it left my door and it has been running for over a year now.

That is so strange, the same thing happened to me too. In 1978 i sent my original pong game in to get it fixed and I just recieved it back last week. That only took 30 years to get that fixed.......SWEEEEEEET.:D

Carnage's transcript for those who didn't read the source:
- Just send it in. Mine got RROD back in April and I got it back in about 3 weeks. It just gives you time to try different things.
Don't bother calling. Their just going to tell you to register your system and go here
https://service.xbox.com/servicehome.aspx
Anyway if your 360 was a launch system it was going to RROD sooner or later.
I do agree that MS should of made the 360 a lot stronger instead. They could of waited another year and waited when all the systems launched.
- Mine wasn't replaced. They repaired mine. What ever they put inside does work because it barley over heats now.
- Ok something weird just happened. When I was typing the above post I heard a knock at the door. It was the UPS guy so I thought "there my Halo 3 legendary Edition that won from the Xbox live play and win contest". It wasn't as big as the legendary box so I ask what it was and he said "Its an Xbox 360, well thats what most of these ship from this address". I was saying to myself "I got a new Halo 3 Xbox 360. - The people want to know why I wouldnt of just called M$. Well I didnt want to speak to some indian that didnt know what they were talking about. I hate M$ support but I love their system. Sure I am inpatient and yeah I forgot about it but It still doesn't make sense that it took so long to get back to me.

Comments from others on the board:
Killjoi99- Lol, these idiots are calling Carnage a PS3 fanboy, LMAO! Yup the mod, with over a thousand posts on an XBOX board obsessed with Halo....a PS3 fanboy.
AcFreeze- That makes it official. Everyone on n4g is a freaking moron. No matter which console they're a fan of, they're all far too extreme. Why defend a console blindly. They all have their faults. Heaven forbid a site devoted to a console brand tell the truth.

The manufacturing date on the case means NOTHING. if you send a 2005 box in today, you will get it back next week with the same case, STILL saying 2005 on it.
The entire story is bullshit.
Besides, MS doesn't give out process numbers for **** and giggles. if he simply sent the console without calling and receiving a process number, that's his own fucking fault. without the call or using the website (which only went up a few months ago), MS has no way to assign a console to a certain person. do you seriously believe they send the damn box around with the console while it's being repaired?

Without getting into detail, my console repair took 8 months, 47 phone calls (yes, 47) to Microsoft support, and an extensive pursuit via the Better Business Bureau to get my 360 back. So, you might understand why I would strongly advocate stealing (read: pirating) any and all Microsoft software that I possibly can.

because they were slow in returning your console, you think it's fine to steal from them? next time your car repair takes longer, you are gonna steal some cars from the repairshop?
