View Full Version : MS to invest in Europe to beat the PS3
David Gosen, Strategic Marketing VP for Microsoft's game business in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), was recently asked how Microsoft plans to keep ahead of the PS3 in Europe as it has been outselling the Xbox 360 for some time now. "We are going to invest to win in Europe." said Gosen. "And when I talk about investment I’m talking about people, the resource in the market, dedicated focus and launch-level marketing spends across media, retail and all areas – that’s where we’re going to make the difference, by driving awareness of the brand and our broadening proposition across all of the regions in Europe." he added.

Weekly ChartTrack figures suggest that PS3 has been outselling 360 for a while now – how do you plan to keep ahead?
We are going to invest to win in Europe. There is no question about that. We understand the challenge in the region. We understand what we need to do to continue to drive the growth of the business. What we need to do is not just pay lip service to this but really invest.
And when I talk about investment I’m talking about people, the resource in the market, dedicated focus and launch-level marketing spends across media, retail and all areas – that’s where we’re going to make the difference, by driving awareness of the brand and our broadening proposition across all of the regions in Europe.

Uh Oh! so he's basically saying they're going to spam the hell out of Europe. I feel sorry for you guys, sounds like every game release is going to be Halo-like.

To me it's not a problem, im actually glad that MS think of Europe:cool:, as we don't get any love from Nintendo or Sony in this region:mad:.
MS try and release all games within the same time frame, not seen that with Sony nor Nintendo:mad:.

I would rather see them invest in making their hardware last longer than a birthday candle.
I'm onto console No6 now and hopefully this falcon model will be my last.

So you actually appreciate that MS are going to bullsh*t you? They are not saying that they will give you anything aside from hyping things. You sure are easy to please apparently. Oh well to each his own, and for the record, nobody said nintendo or sony treat you guys any better.... well after being treated so "well" by everyone I guess even this might seem like the most benevolent act ever. I guess that's a bit sad.

You're a funny individual.... you seem to be under the impression that I own either sony or nintendo, or that I work for any of them at the least. Anyways, I think you need to rephrase your sentence, cause I'm not competing with MS for anything.
If you want to get blasted by hype 24/7 then I guess I'm don't have the right to tell you it's a bad thing. Personally they could do something much more interesting and beneficial with the money if you ask me, same goes for sony.... who the hell comes up with those commercials????. Anyways, stop being so defensive. I don't care who wastes all that money on hyping a game up, it's just not productive in my opinion.... well if I wanted my game to sell I would probably think differently, call me crazy, but I just want my games to be good.

I would think so too, but apparently having an xbox360 commercial show up on tv every 15min is an even better investment.

You are such a fanboy. What has Microsoft done apart from takeover Gamestation and Game shop staff in the U.K. and over hype games like Halo to make you think it likes Europe more than the other 2. They do not even cater for European tastes and think we like the same games as the U.S. I no longer shop instore due to the Microsoft spam we already get.
We get stuffed by all 3 companies in Europe, but this generation for me Nintendo has done a little better with early releases of some titles in Europe first and Sony has given us a true region free console so if not getting releases same as the U.S. we can import and for cheaper prices.

Well, I didn't know MS took over GAME. When I was after Wii last year, I was phoning and asking my local GAME stores and the answer was no Wii in stock but they have PS3 and how superior it was and all that.

taken over Gamestation or Game, what you smoking.
If you full for the hype of games then it's your own fault, look how **** MGS4 turned out, nothing special just like Halo, but if you buy in to it then so be it.
Nintentdo have done nothing to please Europe, look how long it took for Super Smash Brothers to be released over here.
Your a fuckin idiot.

1) Game (and gamestation since its now owned by Game) have devote their shop floor space in two ways, one is trend (which is selling more) and the other is how much is bought by MS, Sony or Nintendo.
2) Hype is personal but at the same time it is highly influenced by advertising, everytime game X is shown on TV, posters or in a games magazine/website it adds to the hype. If you weren't interested in the game before the hype kicked in it won't make much difference but its aimed at people on the edge.
3) Nintendo have gone further in this generation with Europe than ever before, generally we don't wait for games and some (Mario Kart Wii, WiiFit, etc) are released here before the US.

Where you trying to say fall instead of full? If so I do not fall for hype, it makes me not want to buy a game actually. And hype used to be lots of advertising and coverage which Halo took to a new and considerably annoying level that made me wonder if they could say anymore each day about it that was less boring. They even overshadowed a very good game in crackdown as it had a beta for Halo on it. And then it turned out to be a very poor game anyway and they still talk about the series, just bizarre. Microsoft are not learning any lessons thats why they are $6 billion in debt on the xbox business and rising.
Nintendo gave us wiifit, mario kart and a few others earlier than the U.S. so that is already a big improvement on Nintendo historically in Europe. A lot better than price fixing, late bad regional ports and games just never making it.
And shop space has always been bought by companies. Though not helped that staff in both Game and there subsidary Gamestation look like a bunch of pale unfit virgins who seldom see light and enjoy fresh air. Does that description exactly describe you I wonder lol. I would swear at you but long past the age of 12 so not big or clever.
The 360 won't win in Europe. Europeans don't like MS in general, hence all the lawsuits and big fines levied towards them by the European Parliament. Plus there is the problem of RROD, Europeans want quality not junk. Not my opinion, just a generalisation of how I see Europeans.
