Rumor: Xbox 360 dashboard getting a 3D make-over

Internet rumors are suggesting that the Live dashboard is going to be getting a second interface option and will take advantage of a yet un announced motion controller to navigate. The new look will reportedly be set in a 3D environment.


The rumored Xbox 360 Spring Update might not have hit yet, but we know something big is in the works for the console's dashboard.

How big? Well besides the gi-normous list of rumored updates we posted about back in May we're now hearing from a number of sources that the Live dashboard is going to be getting a second interface option, one that will use the yet-to-be announced motion controller to navigate.

This new user interface, we've been told, will recreate the increasingly cluttered dashboard "blade" system in a 3D environment that will be something more akin to the Minority Report than a filing cabinet. The motion controls will allow users to sort of slide through the different levels of this floating menu system.

Sounds like a fantastic idea, if it can be implemented correctly.

You know, I'd just be happy with user content (skin-ability) in the blades. My own images, my own blade styles - rather than the crap they sell you and the only two styles they give you to use.

Keep the 3d crap for something that needs it, like perhaps -gasp- a GAME.

I got a good feeling that this rumor is true. If Microsoft wants to be #1 and everyone knows to do that, you must come out with something that will shatter the Wii's innovation(or at least copy it:D) to break people from the Wii's hype.

You could buy special editions or actually complete games, they come with themes and gamerpics, a fair amount of games have free gamerpics for achievement unlocks.

So... PS3's interface is 3D? Don't get me wrong, I think the PS3 interface is alot sexier than 360's bland interface but I really don't care about that so much... I hope this rumor is true, add .mkv playback to 360's media player, 3D interface controlled by 3D motion controllers(providing they actually work unlike the Wii's), and netflix and my 360 will own my living room; unless of course PS3 get's hacked....

I don't think a 3D interface is going to be any good with the current style (wiimote) of motion controller. Over on kotaku they say that the designer is the same one who did the minority report interface, but I don't see how that would work with the wiimote.

Maybe MS have got special gloves you wear, then I can see it working just like in minority report, but with a wiimote shaped controller? nah..

Either way get ready for flailing/tired arms, looking like a 'retard', damaged TV sets and waggle fests because the motion controller from MS is a go!

yea the ps3 interface is alot sexier i agree. i'm sure microsoft noticed and that's why they're doing something about it. it's too bad the 360 options are limited and isnt as versitile as the ps3. stop being so greedy ms!!!!

I dont know...If you are going to put out a new controller... Make GAMES FOR IT... Not menu systems. I am glad Nintendo did what they did, took the plunge made the controller standard... and are not wasting resources on stupid crap like this..

Minority report meny system... GREAT.. If 360 was a computer it would make sense... but its not, its a game console...

So i can use my new motion controller to click on a 3d menu all day.. Oh yeah and play one game.. AWESOME...

So not only do i have to pay for another controller (or multiple ones for mulitplayer) but it will be completley useless in the long run.

this is just my opinion..
