How does one play backups of UMD's ...like what software is needed and will it work with firmware version 2.0 and higher?
A tutorial would be appreciated...

cheers but non of thoses say anything about if any backups work with firmware 2.0 or higher...
No, currently non of the loaders run properly on 2.0 fw. You must downgrade to version 1.5
If your indeed in love with 2.0 and want to keep it, than there is an eboot launchers that loads some, but not nearly the majority, of homebrew games....but not real games.
If you downgrade to 1.5 you will be able to back-up your games on your memory stick.
CHeck out the forum "How to fit UMD's on memory stick" or something to that extent.
