You don't have to watch tutorial video's the stickies on this forum will explain how to hack your PSP step by step, but it probably won't be too easy for you where you are right now.
Basically you want to install custom firmware on your PSP (Some people will call this "Downgrading" but it isn't really *3.73 to the latest custom firmware which is 3.90 cannot be called downgrading*, thats just a relic from when you did actually have to downgrade to version 1.50).
In order to install custom firmware you'll need two things a pandora battery (Which is a normal battery with its EEPROM serial number set to all F's) there are various ways to do this, if you have access to a PSP which already has custom firmware on it you can use that to convert your battery (which is called softmod), or you could cut it open and follow tutorials (with pictures) on how to perform a pandora battery hard mod (I'd recommend the one wire short method, not the desoldering of the IC Pin as its dangerous... and you'll probably screw your battery, or make it explode. The one wire short is easier anyway), and an MMS (Magic Memory Stick) This is a ProDuo memory stick with a special piece of code installed in a special partition, there are tools out there to create one of these via your computer, but again if you have access to a PSP which already has custom firmware installed it'll make your life a whole lot easier, if not there are tutorials available on how to make an MMS with a computer.
What happens is this, you put the MMS into the PSP followed by the battery, the PSP turns on by itself but because the batteries serial number is all F's the PSP treats this as special and goes into service mode, which then boots to the memory card instead of its internal memory, of course its just booted the special code on the memory stick which will then overwrite the internal firmware and install custom firmware, once thats done your good to go.
The prep work seems complicated and long winded, set yourself some time (if you can) to perform each step, read the tutorials and stickies over a few times before you begin, you'll begin to understand, also people here are normaly quite receptive to questions although they normally refuse to spoon feed people.
If you don't feel you can undertake this, if you post someone from this form (there is a thread dealing with this here on maxconsole) your battery and memory stick they will do the install for you and mail it back, then its just a case of putting it into your PSP and your done. NEVER send anyone your PSP, at most your memory stick and battery :)
If you get desparate, give me a shout and i'll do it for you (it is hard to trust a stranger... i know, so give it a go yourself first)
Good Luck!
