Hey guys,
Did a search here but couldn't find anything on it.
I seem to have problems with WE9 - my PSP freezes whenever it trys to update the WE9 save file. It did this trying to create a new save file when I first ran WE9 and I got around it by copying an existing save game file onto the PSP.
It's started doing it again though since I installed the english patch.
Any ideas? :(

Not to be smug, but how about memorizing the English menu options and then just playing the jap version with the English savegame? It probably won't take a big effort and you could even write them down on paper. Or you could use a digital camera to take snap shots of the PSP screen with English menus, assemble a half dozen of those photos on one page and print it out...use it as a quick reference sheet while playing the jap version until you've memorized them completely. Of course this last option is probably overkill, but I've had problems in general with the new English patched version, especially with the Wifi. I also prefer playing a 900+MB jap rip that has more sound effects and doesn't make that annoying "whooshing bell" sound everytime the on-field action is interrupted by a call, etc., so memorization has been essential.
This probably doesn't help, but good luck anyway.

What problems have you had exactly? Cos I tested throughly with the full iso and ripped versions. As I've stated I didn't translate wifi, also all names of players and teams will still be in jap as they don't transfer over from the option file.

Having used the 9xxMB jap rip, I had already figured out by trial and error how to do wifi on xlink kai. That wifi worked once for me in the smaller jap rip and never in the English patched rip. Now that I think of it, my problems using wifi now may be due to using the English savegame with the small and English patched iso's and trying to hook up with the Chinese guys on Xlink who must surely be using Japanese team/player names.
Using the small jap iso, I can currently "see" another player on xlink and even initiate a game with them. Somewhat into loading, however, a white rectangular box appears with some japanese in it, and the game stops loading despite the fact that "loading" appears in white in the lower left. Hitting any button except circle does nothing, and hitting circle simply aborts the whole process and returns to the wifi menu. I guessed that the japanese message in the box might have been saying something like "waiting for other player" (i.e. to finish loading from his UMD), but waiting several minutes did not help.
Now as for the English patched iso, I can't (using the same button sequence) even initiate an adhoc search. Only get a japanese error message (checked wlan switch, etc, wifi light never comes on) and remain at the wifi menu.
So who knows?
Otherwise the English patched version works fine, though like the small jap iso it still makes that annoying "whooshing bell" or ringing noise, not alltogether unpleasant if heard once in a great while but is like the chinese water torture to me to hear it several times a minute.
great job in any case! it really was an unexpected treat to have the game's more subtle features brought to light. Now it kicks FIFA 2006's ass all the more.

How the hell did you patch it, anyway? I'm just curious.

Thanks but it won't be my patch that causes these problems because all I did was simply swap the japanese txt for english. Nothing more nothing less. The j_text.afs where all the language files are stored are exactly the same for both the rip and the full iso. The only difference is they ripped the files out the 0_text for the ripped version, so they must have ripped something that is maybe vital for wifi. But all I've edited is the text and nothing else. The option file was the one released by pspupdates, except I unlocked all the shop items.
To get rid of the whoosing sound turn the BGM on in the options, this should fix that problem ;)

It's a strange problem and obviously no-one else is experiencing it :(
Basically when the game goes to create or update the save game file, it freezes and the memory stick light flashes rapidly. I have to take the battery out to reset the PSP and afterwards the save game file has become corrupted.
Not having the problems with any other games either.
I'll have to play around with it a bit more and try and figure out what is happening..

I should add this happens with both the ~470mb rip and also the English patched version.

Thanks, that did the trick.
As for no one else experiencing it (as someone else suggested), that's not true. Many on xlink have mentioned the same sound and have trouble connecting with ripped versions, while the Chinese dudes hook up, no problem.
