Mission Complete: Wii NAND switching

Tinkerer ChipD has been working on a recent project in which he has successfully managed to manipulate the Wii's internal NAND memory. ChipD has extracted the Hynix NAND chip out of a USB flash drive, and cloned the original NAND with an 'Infectus' and use of 'Amoxiflash. After this process was completed, he created a switch in order to be able to alter between the two NAND's which may serve purpose for testing out custom NAND code or even debugging.

Could this mean a hardware mod on the way that lets a usb stick be used instead(or in addition?) of the internal storage?

With this mod you can do... nothing!
Now you have one Wii with two nands like the dual nand in the PSP with UP. There the advantage was that you could use an old and the newest firmware. With the Wii there ist no reason to use an old firmware so this is useless I would say.

unless of course the "other" firmware happens to be a custom one ;)

lets say you have a standard one to play originals and a custom one for playing imports, backups and homebrew with no way for ninty to detect the custom firmware/ mod from a game update.

Already done but why? not like you can't emulate VC games on pc and have them look better than the wii can handle..
Will add one thing wasn't hynix meant to be selling substandard products? remember when everyone cried when the 1.6b xbox came out with hynix memory and people cried it would last six months?

um...i think everyone else here would back me up on this. FLIPPING READ THE FORUMS AND YOU'LL FIGURE IT OUT. jesus. now there's a difference between not knowing because it's unknown, and not knowing because you're too lazy to search and read. grow a pair and do what everyone else in the scene does. it's guy's like you that make everyone else irritated.

On a lighter note. hooray. two nands could be rad. say...the second nand was for something like boosting internal memory or like the other guy suggested, CFW, i know my psp loves the cfw, and the xbox was great with CFW. and if you have a flashcart for your DS that CFW is pretty tight too....how many more times can i say CFW maybe i'll stop when madonnaproject goes and climbs back in that cave he's been living in. busy shmizzy. maybe he needs to go to a shmashmortion clinic and get shmashmorted.

i am lazy. but not by choice, but because i dont have the time to poke around. anyhow, thanks for nothing. i have done it and got all the wads and games i could find. not satisfying. at all.

it's may using for fix brick.
understand and better handle bypass zone.
help devs who try to mod nand on Wii and not losing it on small error.
let devs hack nand and forget modchip.

you can hope some thing like.

Boot in Homebrew Channel (and have homebrews like iso loader + usb reader, Wii Miidia and other homebrows).

Turn WiiConnect 24 to WiiTorrent 24 (bittorrent iso and play using iso loader bittorrent music, movie and view using Wii Miidia. or send file to pc using hdd or network)

there's at least 6 threads that i know of in this forum that tell you how to do this with the HB channel or tp hack.

Why should I use an original Firmware, when I have a custom one? I can also play my original local games with it.
Does anybody use the UP in PSP since custom firmware was released? No, it is exactly the opposite. Since release nobody use the UP. And since release of pandora yo don't even need it for unbrick und really noone use the UP.
It's the same with the wii and instead of pandora you can use infectus.
If devs brick their wii they will use infectus or unbrick, thats all. If they don't want to unbrick after brick, they can switch to the other nand. But if this is also bricked, you have to restore two nands!

@detect custom firmware: I dont think they will detect it. If they'll detect it, there will be a patch. It's also no solution againts banning. If your "homebrew-nand" gets banned, your "original nand" gets banned too.

Last but not least the point is that this is nothing special and you can't call this "hack" or something like this. That's a mod which is already done and can be done with every appliance which have a flash (Xb360, PS3, PSP, PS2, PC motherboard, PC DVD drive, satellit receiver,.....).
