Is my drive fixable ?? :-/

hi there
was installing a D2Ckey with a flexpcb and things went wrong.. halfway through i noticed my flexpcb wasnt alligned with one side of the chip.. so i opted for half-wire, half-flexpcb install all went ok booted up my wii and the modchip did fire up giving both leds but after 10 secs it started flashing and wasn't reading or accepting any discs, so i tried pressing on the flex pcb while it was still running :( and all of a sudden i saw smoke come out from the side tht which i'd done manually so i switch it off i look for bridges but nuthing so i fire it back up same story got repeated... then i thought ok im better off without the flexpcb... so now i've restored the wii back to its original state legs have been soldered back properly but when i now try powering up the wii it wont work... fan doesnt spin or nething and without the drive it boots up normally....
i checked the whole circuit board for burnt spots or resistors but everything seems normal... could it be tht i burnt the onbaord D2C chip ? is it possible to repair or do i have a paperweight now :( ? will post pics if needed...

p.s i tried bridging the fuse but tht didnt work either...

If you're desperate, i think you can buy premod d2c drives at a few sites online. As much as i hate the company i think modchip.ca sells them.

General rule of thumb with electronics:

Rule no.1 Never let the smoke out.

Once you let the smoke out, its game over.

dipswitch is right, you probably shorted a fuse somewhere on the board, best bet is to get a new drive, if your interested, I have 3 premodded drives left. PM me if intersted. Best of luck man.

thnx for replying.. i know i think i learnt my lesson not to fiddle with the solder points when the wii is on... but i think just happened cuz i was tired and frustrated after all tht soldering...

i checked out the sites and they charge quite alot for a wii drive 260 bux :eek: luckily i found someone in holland selling replacement boards for 25 euro and a drive costs 80 euros so i think i'll order it them... but would it be enough if i just order the D2C circuit board ? or should i order a complete drive ?
and would my chip still be ok ? or do they die aswell (didnt see smoke rising from the chip) ?

Usually when a short occurs in an instance such as yours, your mod-chip can be tested with a multimeter, but I would be surprised if it still functions properly as the mod was the cause of the short, my advice would be to get a whole premodded drive, you will save yourself alot of headache rather than to try the installation again, why buy a replacement when your trying to achieve a mod, save yourself the aggravation and do what you think is best for your needs. I am trying to get rid of these, so you would qualify as a perfect candidate for it since you are in need, and I am trying to get these off my hands, but no matter what you decide, I hope you find what your looking for, I am sorry to hear about your mishap. if you have a multi meter you can test to see if your blew a fuse and possible fix it. I do it all the time for PS2s

I appreciate people bashing on me, when they have no legit proof, and not to mention I have been in business for a while, with no complaints until Nafarious came along, they lost his package during shipping, which I have proof of. Not to mention he was also insured for like $400, so if anything he scammed the postal service, btw, he also wrapped his wii in christmas wrapping paper. I have proof of all of this, documentation from the postal service notifying me of his loss, below is a picture of what they sent me. So please stop talking down to me, I am here to help others, until there is proof, everything else is just hearsay. I can also provide names of other members along with phone numbers and tracking info from past dealings of good transactions.

Wii Modder has been banned from the GameForum and also MaxConsole and now he is working his charm here.....

I am warning everyone now....Wii Modder is a scammer......I sent him my Wii and $150 thru Paypal and he sent me back an unmodded Wii.

And the paperwork above is proof I never received anything from him.

I would be more than willing to cooperate with the administration and members of these forums, I have never scammed abnyone nor do I plan to, Nafarious is probably a modder looking to bash on me, getting other members to disbelive me. I do not appreciate that as I have done nothing but help users find what they are looking for.
