Ok, Ive been trying to install a D2pro into a D2B wii. The wires are soldered by someone who has great experience at doing it. However, the drive seems to have died. I took the chip out and the drive was working fine. I narrowed the problem to the ground wire. If the wire is grounded, the chip's red light turns permanently on and the drive stops working. If the wire is lifted up, the drive works again and the red light goes off. Anybody know have any ideas what the problem could be?

have you reinstalled the chip again , or is it uninstalled?

im also having this same type of problem, i think it might have to do with the D2pro9 not having the latest firmware on it, which happens to be 1.1b (for support for other drives other then D2C). Can anyone confirm this?

Same here just installed using 5 wires on D2B, as above drive dies not take in discs when remove GND thus turning off chip drive works again before buying checked D2pro website and says works using 5 wires does not state if needs to be 1.1b firmware installed. Dont fancy having to now buy programmer :confused:

yeah dude its annoying as hell believe me. They really need to state that their chips wont have this firmware on it. And D2prog is needed for non D2c drives. Honestly the main reason i went with D2 over wiikey, is simply the customer support/fast updates. I don't want to worry about games like SSBB (i know its fixed now) retail not working for 2 months, id rather be worry free or a fix very quickly. As many people might not believe me but its true, I buy good games, and working retails are very important for me.
But now with d2prog i will continue to buy D2pro9 chips for friends, and just update them with the d2prog that i now have coming in the mail.

Have you confirmed that it needs 1.1b firmware installed to work with D2B drive? If this is case suppose will need to buy one £34 for chip now £20 for a programer should have just got wiikey £10 delivered

yeah i sent a message, to the site i got the chip from. They said i need to update the chip via d2prog, i ordered one so im nearly 99% sure this is the problem we are having. I agree it is annoying and is getting expensive, but at the same time it is a great chip. But i will keep you updated and post once i receive the d2prog.

i could understand if you were to buy a d2pro for the d2b with cut legs - saves you dremmeling,
but to get a d2pro for a normal d2b/dms is pointless
wiikey all the way!

I just got my d2pro9 yesterday and have the same issues with my d2b wii as well. I've just placed an order for a d2prog but won't receive it for a while.
Did you leave your d2pro9 chip modded to the Wii when you flash it to 1.1 firmware or did you have to remove it first? Or did you flash it to 1.3 right away, skipping 1.1?

yes you can leave your chip inside your wii to update , connect the flat ribbon cable and then once you have finished updating your chip , leave the ribbon cable inside your wii ,and leave the end that connects to your programmer tucked away behind the memory card slot , you will never have to open your wii again if you need to update with the programmer.

You have to update to 1.1b then after that update is done you can then update using disk, so then update to 1.3
Updating just make sure you remove power to wii. Also i left about a inch of the ribbon sticking out of front mem card port any more than this and you cannot tuck it away and close front
Info i found on updating
d2pro v1.1b update - 9 wires

WARNING
=======
** USE AT YOUR OWN RISK **
*** Do not update installed chips with diode shorted! ***
The diode prevents current from d2prog from flowing to the d2c chip.
If the diode has been shorted the d2c chip may be permanently damaged.
There is no need to short the diode. If shorting the diode "solved" any problems
you are most likely using too long and/or too thin wires for 3v3 and GND.
Thank you for using d2pro!
========
Features
========
- Works with DMS, D2A, D2B and D2C* chipset drives
- Enables DVD update of the SPI Flash
- Updatable and configurable via utility disc
- Recovery Mode - can fully recover from a bad flash
- Region Fallback - impossible to brick the drive by setting the wrong region
* This firmware does NOT support the newly-discovered d2c chipsets
============
Instructions
============
1. If the d2pro chip is already installed in a Wii console then
disconnect the power cable to wii.
2. Disconnect d2prog from the USB cable.
3. Connect the flat flexible cable to d2prog (and to d2pro if you have
not done so already).
Be VERY CAREFUL when connecting the cable and make sure that is in
place properly. If the cable is misaligned and the Vcc (power) and
ground lines are shorted d2pro or d2prog could be damaged.
4. Connect the USB cable to d2prog.
5. Run the updater software. It can be run without parameters for
fully interactive mode, or with the following switches:
usage: ./d2prog [-v] [-n] [-y] [-f <num>]
-v verify only
-n flash only, don't verify
-y start flashing immediately
-f <num> select firmware
Run without parameters for fully interactive mode.
-h brings up the help.
6. Disconnect USB cable and then d2prog. (done!)
