For some reason now I am getting DRE's on all of my backups, and they wont play, they will load and then I get a DRE and then the motor just stops and I get the Power Down and re insert message, or just get the normal disc read error. I have had my Wiikey for well over a year now and never had this problem until recently. My Wii firmware is 3.2U and my Wiikey has the latest 1.9X firmware although I have tried reverting back to older Wiikey firmware and even tried the recovery disc, but the recovery disc wouldnt read at all. I recently got a USB Gecko, would this be affecting anything for some odd reason?? Has anyone had any of the same similar problems??

this is due to burn media, burn speed, burner type, laser problems in the wii..
change brands, speeds and burner ;)

From everywhere I have looked on the internet that seems to be the only solution,I guess maybe the laser does get weaker or the firmware updates on the Wii changes them. I have been using Memorex 16X DVD-R and burned at 4X using the NEC burner that was famous for Gamecube Games (cant remember the model right now) and IMGBurn software. I just cant believe for over a year I never had very many DRE problems, just an occasional hiccup...and now all of my backups that played good before are getting DRE's....lets see...I guess I will be looking for Verbatim DVD-Rs now.....would a Verbatim DVD RW work as well? it did for the Cube on the Wii,I played a backup of Tales of Symphonia on a Verbatim DVD RW and it worked flawlessly....

no rewritables, they are not good IIRC for the lens n whatnot..
but you can also try burning at 8x, some discs are better at that speed..
get verbatim or TDK dvd-r

Yeah,it was definitley my media thank god and not my Wii :) Actually I have been using Memorex 16X +R not -R like I thought. It was all of my older discs, anything I have burned in the past say 3 months or so works, anything I have had over a year doesnt,I guess the cheap media has a short life span,I re-burned one from the original ISO on the same Memorex disc and it worked fine...LOL I even stuck them in my PC and tried doing another backup from the burned discs using IMGBurn and all of them had unrecoverable sectors at some point, unfortunatley the one I want to recover the original disc is damaged now as well,I wonder if there is a way to recover the data,by ignoring the bad sectors and trying to make another iso file??

glad you sorted it mate.
if you buy cheap media it will cost you more in the end, cheap is not always your best option ;)

Actually I need to make a correction, all of the discs that went bad are actually Memorex 16x DVD-R and all of the ones still working are Memorex 16x DVD+R,still dont trust either one now and will be using the good stuff from here on out, thanks for help guys,I am suprised I didnt get flamed or get some real smart ass remarks :) which is very common in this forum and its one of the reasons I usually dont post in here....
