View Full Version : MS: XBLA file size limit being increased to 350mb
Xbox Live Arcade's David Edery gas said that Microsoft are increading the XBLA file size limit from 100mb to 350mb. "Yeah, it's a steady progress. We've been listening to our partners, listening to our customers to try and get a feel for what's right. We don't want the size limit to hit the roof because we think there's some value in promoting small pick and play experiences that don't cost USD 20 million, it's good for the ecosystem." said David.

The bigger part I agree with, but I think now they'll get too complicated, and they didnt want to hit the roof? Isn't 100mb to 350mb a 150% increase?

i dont really mind more complicated XBLA games as long as they are quality and they dont raise the average price because of the added size
...however this is M$ we're talking about....theres a reason why many of us use the $ instead of the S

I had always assumed that MS's idea of limiting the size of XBLA games was to guarantee that they fit on a memory card, and because they felt gamers wouldnt wait that long to download a game. Broadband is wide enough now that time isnt a concern and sales have shown gamers are pretty patient about downloads. It makes me wonder if the Arcade is being secretly phased out though, I dont know anyone who owns one and cant see the userbase being all that large. In a perfect world, MS would announce it was dropping the arcade, making the 20gig drive dirt cheap for those that do need it and lowering the price on the 120 to an affordable level...

I'm pretty sure the limit now is 150 and not 100, gotta check it tough.
And that is probably coming for Soul Calibur and some other games which would never be able to be compressed to 150 megs...

I assumed it was because of mem card issues as well. But it does limit the games and im glad to see them up`ing it.
They should just make gig mem sticks, Like 1,2,4,8 jump drive sorta attachments. or mini hard drives with usb.

i make it 250 percent increase.
Haven't been keeping up to date with the XBL games much, but isn't soul calibur releasing over XBL? Surely thats got to weigh in around the new limit, and even then that would be compressed a bit
Besides, with microsoft going down the whole digital distribution path, i'm surprised they don't offer full retail games like the PSN does.

I didn't know you could download PS3 retail games on PSN. Aside from Warhawk, which was to be an online exclusive anyway, and GT5 Prologue, which is more like a glorified demo than a retail product, I don't know of any full retail game available on PSN...
Maybe I'm wrong though. Maybe I can download myself a copy of GTAIV on PSN???
lol.
