Rumor: Jasper Xbox 360 to ship this September

According to an MS insider, the Jasper motherboard powered Xbox 360 which features a cooler 65 nm GPU and a 65 nm CPU should hit stores in the first week of September this year.


I can't wait to see when someone figures out that the Xenon Xbox that they sent off to get RRODed repaired AKA "RnR" was sent back with an "Opus" motherboard. That is likely to be identified by it using the same power consumption as the "Falcon" system but in a "Xenon" case.

Microsoft is probably not going to be making a big deal about the switch to the newer motherboard design but since the "Jasper" is going to be using a new GPU chip it is going to be using less power and can probably be identified by the power consumption rating on the box.

If they are smart they will sell it bundled with their motion controller if it is ready by then.

Everything electronic is going to have a failure rate. You can't expect everything to always be perfect. Granted 360's is rediculously high. The cooler GPU's & CPU's are going to be a Help at reducing the amount of RRoD's. But it still doesn't help when people are morons & put consoles in enclosed spaces with no airflow.

anyway smaller gpu less heat less trouble but as redwolf said the whole xbox360 is built from cheap components so problems from these ultra cheap parts will still be happening even if one day the rrod is fixed.

The problems are not the chips by themselves, but rather the solder (being lead free), I'm sure they already fixed the oven profile, so, there's no more cold soldering between the solder balls of the RAM BGA's.

The main problem in the design of that MB is the space, and the heat dissipated by the GPU, the heatsink was just complete wrong, I was very surprised when I saw the pictures of the heatsink, anybody with knowledge of GPU's will tell you that H/S was way to small and not even made of copper (I know is more expensive) for the temperatures of the GPU.

And even with the Falcon design there is no more the RROD problem (if you can probe wrong please provide the links), so this will help a lot, and will definitely fix the RROD once and for all (about time :o)

And every company use low quality components (being an Engineer myself), I have several friends that work in Sony, and you'll be surprised of the stories they tell me about the manufacturing of several products, the only difference is that Sony has more knowledge in the hardware business design, as MS has more knowledge in the software design (OS, SDK, etc.) side.

to be fair to them (m$) they are well on top of the rrod finallY!, they admittied that they didnt understand the issue at first. The new machines coming back from repair are now silent and run VERY cool (these are NON falcon old consoles). It EASY to fix the consoles IF they used the simple technique as they do in PC cases (Holes in the mboard at certain places and metal clamps or plastic lugs holding the bboard to the case - at least 8!!). I have found all the ones I have fixed the main trick is to keep the board straight!! (because of the flexing etc, EVEN if you have a 2005 console it will still work like a workhorse if the mboard doesnt flex!!)

valhalla is when i think the RROD will finally be fixed (maybe not) because the gpu & cpu will be made 1 super chip which means the gpu will be moved from under the dvd drive to where the cpu is.

i think as long as the gpu remains under the dvd drive RROD will still happen even with jesper.

yep falcons are falling victom too fixed a few of them now they are using epoxy tho after putting the gpu on the board or before im not sure to stop it from warping as much

They wont make a big fuss about the new board (As You and I the customer) who have been ripped off with all their other old shi*ty tester boards n drives That we have sent back many times over and over again to be sent more shoddy crap 2nd hand rrod boards
Basicly we all have beta testers for Gates (F@ck MS)
Unless they recall all the old crap systems back and give us all new jasper boards (pigs may have the ability to fly by then)

Basicly we all have beta testers for Gates (F@ck MS)Wake up bill gates no longer works at MS, it's not his fault MS is too cheap to pay for quality boards after all gates probably got the rrod himself.. if not him major nelson. You can't blame upper management for hardware design, blame penis moore and all the other quitters and those engineers that didn't speak up loud enough.
One thing that needs considering the rrod just kills the console, the xbox 1 faults could burn your house down :D

well I deffinatly cant wait for this, and at the current prices (AND) with some more discounts coming at xmas, this will be a must have console in my view.
