View Full Version : MS say Four-player Co-op not confirmed for Gears of War 2
You may remember a recent GoW2 interview with Cliff Bleszinski where he could be heard saying that the game will have "four co-op players." Well IGN went and asked Microsoft who said "no announcement has yet been made in regard to Gears of War 2 having four-player co-op play." They then offer an explanation for the misunderstanding, but it is unclear if this from Microsoft or their own deduction. Cliff apparently said "Co-op's drop-in, drop-out, multiple difficulty settings for co-op players."
While there's no doubt that many expect Gears of War 2 to have four-player co-op play, Microsoft is backing away from anything resembling an announcement for the time being.

Naturally, the video is broke now (here, anyway) and I can't listen to to this to try to and hear for myself.
That's kind of funny though. It had seemed vague to me. Four player co-op is great, but I don't think it needs to be a big production.. I actually don't like the contrivances you find in Army of Two, that are just thrown in there to force you to use "teamwork".
Quake2 had wonderful co-op teamplay. I think it just upped the monster count depending on how many people were playing. Or reduced the appearance of health kits. Or maybe not. It was still fun, regardless.. I don't even think the game imposed a different limit from the deathmatch portion, just jump on in! whatever mode you fancy! That's the way to go, IMO. A game's problems should be realistic enough that they can be solved with various levels of efficiency by any number of people.
IMO, teamplay is the next big thing. I hope. I'm talking about "single player" style co-op campaigns.. Where it's 2+ people playing the "story mode" of a game.

This is to make the name Gears of War appear more times in the headlines, the game will, in the end, have 4 player co-op. Just like Sony puts secret improvements in their system updates that people start finding and later we see a post on Maxconsole detailing the secrets.
A way to be twice in the spot light!

hmm i thought sony's secret firmware improvements where crashes.. we find them later by playing games? to get in the news they release another firmware and the developers update the game lol. then if you have a launch ps3 you'll then wait for a third and fourth fix when running gtaIV. Publicity how nice :D

Shaddap.
If gears 2 doesn't have 4 player co-op it won't be a tremendous letdown but I bet I wont be able to stop thinking that four people could be running amok here instead of two.
