So basicly there will be a new version in 2009, it just wont be a "System-on-a-chip" based version.... lol

lame attempt at humor man...
Sony has a worse track record for console deaths due to hardware failure than microsoft... believe it or not. (Yes i'm talking about Laser failure on every Sony console to date)
It just seems to be more people like Sony than MS... and are willing to b!tch openly about it.

thats what Pixar said about Cars 2 and Toy Story 3...
"Cancelled Indefinitely"
but now in the year 2009..pixar confirmed they are making both of them...
Oblivion PSP was Considered Cancelled by the devs..But of THIS year its comming in about 60 days...
the Xbox 360 slim PROBABLY won't happen...
but you can't trust the Dev's word these days....

Slim wont happen unless they total redo the cooling system. The 350 and ps3 are power house pc`s at heart and generate to much heat. Like a pc they have to stay cool or something will go wrong. Many want slim pc`s as well but look at the cost for a small pc. Even laptops generate alot of heat. I just dont see a slim 360 or ps3 happing anytime soon. Maybe more to the end of this gen.

Microsoft has a habit of lying and twisting their press releases. If they said this wont be out in 2009, it probably means it will be out in late 2008.

You guys know the drill. They won't confirm this because they want people to buy the current version as if a newer better one isn't coming. They say they won't be releasing a new console because they consider it the 360 still, just a updated version. The slim part might just be a rumor, but newer chipset is coming.

Don't every console die sooner or later?
NES had problems with reading after a while aswell.. Of course the laser get's worn out after 6-7 years of playing.. My phat was basicly dead, but that was after 6 years! not 1-2 as 360 is holding up.. Sony haven't had poor quality consoles such as MS.. You know it yourself..
But, I really think they should consider a slim after a little while.. 2009 sound realistic in my ears, but I'll guess they'll wait for Sony to say something..

Didnt the PS2 suffer from dodgy laser pretty early in its life? The PSX (that big beautiful grey one) was the best console form Sony. Pure brilliance.

The ps2 suffered from all kinds of probs. But the ps2 had probably the best game library of all time. The ps1 had trouble fending off sega. While the ps2 destroyed gamecube, and blasted xbox out the water. The ps2 set the standard for gaming. Microsoft basically copied what the ps2 did and followed that play book play for play with the xbox 360.
mid priced system
best game line up
most exclusives
tons of features
shady design flaws
Most major franchises
Had sony not tried to force blu-ray on the world, then the ps3 could have rode the ps2 thunder right into 2nd place. But the blu-ray drive sent cost up, sony profits down, caused headaches for devs. Had they left out that drive and went with a reg dvd drive, they could have added a good up scaler, more system/video memory, rumble, kept launch price down, worry about profit vs worrying about losses by keeping manufacturing prices down and last but not least they could have left BC alone!
While the psx was cool in its own right, the ps2 has defined console gaming offering near arcade experience in the home. Your not a gamer if you have never owned a ps2.

I dont believe it ! Still got my launch ps2 working fine after all these years . And sooner or later every device will fail .... just not so soon like an xbox360 .Its not about b!tching as i got 2 360īs , but everybody must admit the hardware design is just **** .

and? I have gone through 3 PS1's and 4 PS2's all laser problems. my first ps1 I had to start flipping over only a year and a half after release and my first PS2 died shorty after having it for a year.
every single person I know who has owned a PS2 has had to buy either a new laser or a new console since launch... some multiple times....
I'm not denying the flaws of first generation of 360's, but if people are going to b!tch about RROD then they should also b!tch about the bad lasers in every iteration of Sony's systems PSP, PS1, PS2 and PS3...
Also my launch Premium 360 is still going strong... lasted longer then my launch PS1 and PS2.
I did have my core 360 die last year though...

Thats really weird I've had my PS2 since launch and still working fine. The same probabilities exit for the 360 aswell, I know people who have been through loads while others have never had a single hitch.

Some people are lucky I guess.
I'm a pretty heavy gamer...
how much was your PS2 used?
also sometimes the PS2 laser would stop reading CD's but was still able to read DVD's, and vice versa... stupid lasers...

Actually now that you mention it mine failed to read the blue disks with a 'Disk read error.' Worked fine with DVDs but not the Blue CDs. It didn't bother me that much because the blue disks were phased out in favour of the higher capacity DVDs but an annoyance nevertheless.
In terms of how much I used it, well loads. After I completed Timesplitters 2 (yes all of it) I used to play arcade matches over, and over and over again. To be fair I was pretty young then and easily entertained.
