A key Nintendo programmer has left Nintendo after 11 years to join Microsoft. Colin Reed will be joining the Forza Motorsport team at studio Turn 10. Reed had many key programming roles during hist time at Nintendo and worked on Metroid Prime: Hunters (NDS) and Pikmin (GCN).

During his 11 years at Nintendo, Reed served in many key programming roles, including technical lead on NST's Metroid Prime: Hunters (NDS) and main system programmer on Nintendo EAD's Pikmin (GCN).

His resignation marks the latest high-profile departure from Nintendo. In late April, Metroid Prime series developer and wholly-owned Nintendo subsidiary Retro Studios lost three pivotal staff members.

First of all, it says that he's a programmer. Not a designer or artist. Second, wouldn't it make any sense to you? Why would you think that talents are restrictive.

Ahahah! Crappy programmers are. Big assed team-type ninjas who've proven themselves on numerous AAA titles are not.

I for one am glad people are paying more attention to the lads in the engine room. I'd love to see more news like this.

also sjkhounk qft.

I can't help but feel the guy just sold his soul to the devil..... but then I remember nintendo isn't exactly the holiest of corporations. Well don't know him, but for his sake as well as all gamers sake, I hope he does a great job on forza, and whatever else he tackles.

If thats the baseline then so are artists, musicians and even designers. What makes it work is the way they operate as a team. As an individual pretty much anyone is replaceable.

Must have been a slow day for news on that site.

People move jobs every day in life.

Might I remind you it didn't say what he did while programming those games, programmers don't code the whole game, they code a segment of it in conjunction with other programmers. In addition, like it was said earlier maybe he was getting paid more to move or got better benefits? Who knows maybe he just wanted to leave, but until word comes out of his mouth on why he left, there's no use bashing each other.

Since Wii and DS both print money Nintendo probably could afford to pay their "key people" enough so they don't jump ships, but what do I know about Japanese art of doing business.
