View Full Version : MS again say they have no plans for a Blu-ray Xbox 360
Microsoft have again said that they have no plans to introduce a Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360. The news comes after a Chinese news paper reported that a subsidiary of Austek had secured an order from MS to make Blu-ray Xbox 360's for release this fall.
"Games are what drive consumers to purchase game consoles, and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available."

MS is lying. If the units aren't going to be available until Q3, MS won't want any discussion occurring which could throw a monkeywrench into current sales.

MS is like a hooker in court when it comes to the BD Xbox 360.
Definitely hiding something. To tell the truth, the console WILL need another storage medium in the next couple of years; maybe 3. Devs will be pushing for more space as time wears on. And no, you can't compress everything. (compression fanboys)

I'm sure MS will announce a blu-ray addon like the HD-DVD addon. The reason is because a lot more people own 360 than they do a PS3 and if you enable blu-ray on the 360 for like $99-$199 then none of those people who own a 360 are going to buy a PS3 which is Sony's strong selling point for their console. If Microsoft was smart they would just release this already, I'd like to see what Sony would do to push their consoles off the shelves once the competition has bluray as well. This would make for an interesting console war.

who gives a crap... if you want blu-ray so bad then buy a blu-ray player. Why do people need it to plug into the 360 to justify buying it .
It will only be used for movies and you can buy a stand alone player to do that regardless. But if people are so desperate to buy a blu-ray player and plug it into the 360 just to say they can, then Microsoft should make one. Why not cash in on the dumb people who think it must not be cool if it doesn't plug into a 360.
One way or another its gonna be expensive anyways. The 360 already will upscale dvd`s so unless you have a 1080p lcd tv then getting blu-ray is kinda dumb anyways.

I don't think it's about pluging something in their 360s. It's about paying $400 for a HD movie player vs. paying $200 or less for a add-on that will do the same.
It's a monetary issue. Although I'm not excluding the fact that some 360 fanboys will buy it just because it's an official 360 product, but I think that for most, it is mainly a monetary concern.
I for myself, am not willing to pay $400 for a movie player. But at $200 or less it looks more interesting to me.

Only the models with the HDMI port are upscaling DVDs. And the 360 does a pretty loosy job at it BTW. Console DVD players are always failing most professional DVD benchmark tests when they're reviewed by A/V specialists websites and publications, and the 360 dvd player is no exception.
But I agree on one thing, getting Blu-Ray if you don't have the equipment to properly take advantage of the technology (large HDTV) is kind of pointless.
The cheapest stand-alone BD players (albeit Profile 1.1) are close to the $250 mark now and will get cheaper One thing against the HD DVD add-on was its inability to decode any of the advanced HD codecs - if your player cannot decode DD+, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA you are only enjoying half the "HD experience" - and in my opinion the upgrade in the audio outweighs the upgrade in the video when going from SD to HD - and you miss out.
With the XBox360 not built to decode these codecs I suspect a Blu Ray add-on will not be the bargain one may think it will be, priced at a sub-200 price mark. Then again, this is all hypothetical - I truly doubt MS will release a BD-player, there is simply too much competition, and they are late to the scene.
no BD then=no BD now the end(fin)
