Game disc could not be read...

Apologies if this has already asked ( i assume so – but for some reason or other i cant get search option to work on this forum)
My wii randomly faults with ‘The game disc could not be read please read the wii operations manual for more information’.
Could this fault be in any way related to my mod chip (wiikey) Not sure if the error includes originals, i would just like to know as it would point me in right direction to cure fault.

1,how old is your wii?
2.what media do you use?
3.what speed did you burn your discs at?

My Wii is approx 8 months old but to be honest rarely gets used (couple of times a month) I do us 'cheapish discs' but always have with the wii and only recently started getting this issue - i even get the issue with older discs i burnt and were ok but now give the same fault.

I hope its the media and not the wii!!

Ive just backed up mario cart and played on it fine last night (played around 3/4 races including online - just tried today and can't even get to first race in 5 attempts.

please help!!!

to be honest if you use cheap media you are asking for trouble,when you use cheap media your wiis laser has to work overtime trying to read from the disc, this can cause the problems which you are experiencing now.you can try burning your disc to a better media ,if this does not solve your problem you can try cleaning your laser and also tweaking the pot ,this might help if its not a media problem. tutorial here http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=106286
