View Full Version : Do any emulators on the Wii support the classic controller?

Until the Virtual Console is hacked it looks like we need to use emulators but most of them use Gamecube-mode so the Wii's classic controller isn't supported.
Are there any emulators out that DO support the classic controller?

I don't think so, not yet.
I had to buy a GC controller to use emulators and play Roms. I did buy the classic controller first then realised it didn't work.

I'd be willing to bet its only a matter of time before the classic control is supported with wii homebrew. we as a scene are just starting to see wii native code (and not just gube homebrew run on the wii in cube mode), so sit tight :)

Is it true that I can only use a gamecube controller for the wii emulators on a DVD? Because its in Gamecube mode?
It doesn't seem like the gamecube controller looks much like an NES or SNES controller. I just want to make sure I'm correct about this, before I buy some wireless GC controllers.

I don't know if this work, but used to work on the NGC , using emualtors on it ( I didn't hack my Wii yet...) , I used a Psx to NGC adapter, this way you can use your Psone/ Ps2 ( psone is much better ) Pad that is very similar to the snes pad, instead of the NGC controller. Much better to platforms.

Most of the Wiibrew emulators have wiimote support. I can play almost all system with it. You hold the wiimote sideways like and old controller.

Thanks for this reply, it helped out a lot. Unfortunately, I can't install the homebrew channel because my wii has version 3.3 on it. I assume my only option is to use the twilight hack to install the homebrew channel, right? Do I have to have the original zelda game to do this? I do have a chip.

Yes, you can install the Homebrew channel with the Zelda on a 3.3 wii, WITH a backup too... I did! BUT, there are 2 different types of Zelda games and hacks for a US game, and 1 for EU and 1 for Jap. So I just tried the first hack for the Zelda Backup I had downloaded and it worked, 50/50 chance I guess. SO, you can do 4 things if you have US.
1. If you have the game, just install the hack like the guides say using the type that goes with the disc number.
2. If you want to actually play the Zelda game and not just use the exploit, you can buy it or borrow it from a friend
3. if you already have the back up, you can just try one of the hacks and hope it works, I dont know what happens if you dont do the right one, it worked for me the first time.
4. If you do not have a backup of the Zelda, you can contact someone with a torrent for a backup *&*&coughMEcought*(&* and who knows which version works with that backup(I tried it and it works, so I know).
So, let us know how it goes!

I bought an adapter to use my ps2 controller with the emulators (Gamecube mode) and I can't get my logitech wireless one to work with it. Anyone know if it is supported? I'm looking for a wireless solution for nes/snes emulators on the wii console.

Many of the emulators support the Wii controller, and the classic controller. You can install the homebrew channel with 3.3 firmware, just refer to the WAD Sticky thread for instructions and links to help you get that installed.
