I've my PSP for 6 months now. Been good all along. Few days ago I bough the PSP joygrip with rechargable battery in it. Since then been using it to charge my PSP while playing it. It was all good. Then this morning I try to charge my psp using the Sont charger, and to my suprise, the orange led won't light up anymore!!

Does these kind of battery pack cause the psp power circuit to fail?
Now I need to find ways to fix it, as Sony Aus said they can't help me. I have a Jap unit by the way.

You guys know how to fix this?

You have to be careful when using 3rd party items. I had a similar thing happen with a 3rd party in car charger. Luckily , I have 2 PSP's and use the 2nd one to charge both batteries. You can buy an official stand alone PSP battery charger. I'm sure iI saw it at lik-sang.

If you wanted to try and fix it you would need a new motherboard. I messed around with mine to try and fix it and that was the only way I could see that would sort the problem out.

this all depends if the voltage is acurate on the battery pack most device and this should include the psp have an inbuilt tolerance of round -+ 20% of the incoming voltage anything over this will kill the charge circuit.

the only solution i could advise you with at this time is to buy the external battery charger which is available just to charge the battery externally or wait until i come across this problem and guide to repair it will then be publishied here on maxconsole.

Thanks for the advice guys. I was thinking of getting a desktop charger to fix my problem as well. Since I'm worried that my PSP (Jap ver) will die on me someday, I've decided to buy another one (AUS ver), which I just got now.

When I get my Aus PSP, i try the new charger and it actually charge my old Jap PSP  . I tot my old charger is gone, so I tried it with my new PSP and it works too  .

After some close examination, I realise that the third party power brick has a bigger charging tip than the original Jap charger, thus make my original PSP's "hole" bigger than it should be. Now the Jap charger will not charge my Jap PSP due to contact issue, but the Aus Charger seems to have a bigger tip, tats why it worked.

Ohh well, now I ended up with 2 PSPs :o I guess one as a spare unit

glad its not broke you could always find a suitable end that fits snug and replace with the one that dont work

Or take a pin and carefully bend the contacts back.

This has worked in most cases for me, case in point, the cartridge contacts on the old NES units.
