Yes, it's safe to update. No need to worry about a brick with your pal game and pal console. You only need to be careful with games from outside your region :)

I read somewhere on the net that if you dont have latest firmware a wii could end up getting bricked, what about online updates are there safe to update as I have never updated the Wiikey either had no probs until now.

Thats not true. You cannot brick a wii by not updating.

Don't think I have the bottle to press update LOL, I took it of Wifi last week as it asked for a system update and read some posts that future wifi system updates might brick the Wii or stop the Wiikey working etc.

you don't have the.. bottle? using a translator there? :P
wifi system updates are SAFE as are game updates from your own region. MANY many many people with the wiikey are now on the very latest firmware (thru wifi or pal games @ pal wiis) including myself, just update.

Let's try another angle - by not updating the wii's firmware, you'll only be left out with more current games.
you wont be able to play mario galaxy, smash bros, or mario kart at your 2.x firmware....

Safest way to update the wii firmware is by wifi.

i thought there was a time when nintendo released an update and everyone started paniking because it said it might brick the wii?
So Pal games are safe for PAL wii, it's just the other region games that will be a problem, gotcha.

if you update an old firmware wii with those updates they will brick the same way. the closer you are @ firmware to the other region update the safer it is
