Upgrading Wiikey from 1.3 to 1.9s

Hi

I have been out of the wii scene for a while and would like to play mario kart.
Whats the safest way to upgrade? Should I upgrade my wii from 1.3 to 1.9s first and then run the system update or do this the other way round?
Is it safe enough to jump directly from 1.3 to 1.9?

1.9s also contains the fixes from previons versions i think so it should be fine just to get straight to 1.9s.
