View Full Version : How do I find out my WiiKey version?

When I go to this site I see the new downloads for the WiiKey:

http://wiikey.cn/resources.html

How do I find out my current version and what this the advantage to upgrading if I need it?

Is there a guide to upgrading?

What are the pros and cons of the upgrade? Can I mess anything up with it?

My Wii is running fine and happy right now so is there any point in upgrading?

Thanks,

Don't think there is a way to find out what firmware you are currently on

You need to upgrade to play mario galaxy and the retail version of SSMB

I would just stay uptodate anyway

All you need to do is download the latest update for your region

Burn the iso and follow the onscreen instructions

Very easy

I can play SM Galaxy but as soon as I select the save file I want to play it says disc can not be read and no matter how many times I eject it and put it back in it does not work so I have never actually played it.

I think I am on the g version of the firmware.

As long as you have an authentic WiiKey, upgrading will NOT mess anything up. As to finding out what FW version you have on there, good luck. In my experience the updates are pretty rock solid, I have currently been upgrading all my customers systems to 1.9s/x from 1.9g. To make sure you are current, just pop in the 1.9s disc and update, test SSBB, and/or SMG. The FW upgrade is good in many ways because it keeps you up to date with current games like SSBB, with that update the WiiKey has dual layer support among a few other added features. Nothing will go wrong or change as far as your gameplay goes, IMHO its always best to stay up to date with current FW releases.

There is only one more firmware that is higher than yours and that's 1.9s

I'd upgrade it just for the sake of it

As for your mario problems delete your save file and try again, if that's no good then just burn another one off :D

I would love to just burn off another one BUT I don't have that special DVD drive or whatever I need for my computer to copy the discs. I want to get in to it up it seems complicated and expensive.

Its easier to just go on craigslist.com and find people locally selling the backups.

Don't get yourself busted for buying backups of games..... Do yourself a favor, use torr*nts and burn them with an ordinary DVD burner.

I had no idea you could do that.

If you know a good torr site please PM me, the old one I used to use does not allow traffic from Canada anymore. :(

Also how can you burn it when the drive can not read a wii disc? I put any of my wii disc's in to my DVD burner on my computer and it can not read, backup or original.

Perhaps I am stepping out of the rules of the forum by talking about this, if so please PM me.

There's an extremely low chance of your chip being completely up to date out of the box. Just burn the update and run it.
