Chart-Track have said that sales of the Xbox 360 went up 35-40 percent over the weekend following the European price cuts. However Chart Track said its too early to read into this figure at the moment and that the real litmus test would be over the next three to four weeks.

Question is: Is it still behind the PS3?

The title should be 35% to 40% in UK.

The UK sees much stronger sales than rest of Europe for 360 so I'd say its likely the effect in total will be less, particularly in countries like Spain where 360 sells really badly - 40% there is probably only another 2000 units or so anyway.

I don't think this cut will drive anything other than a spike personally. And when the PS3 GT5:P bundle hits it'll negate it anyway if the 1M pre-orders in Europe for GT5:P report is anything to go by.

not sure about that - bound to be a 360 GTA pack as well so it could be an equal increase in sales for both platforms. Dont think the exclusive extra upcoming stuff for the 360 will make a huge difference on it - except if you own both maybe and thats would only effect software sales.

i would venture to say that the moajority of those 1M preorders are already current owners of the console, and i would say GTA/MGS will be the time for the PS3 to shine and gain major momentum in hardware sales....but if and when another price cut comes in the states on the 360 itll put things right back to the current state

more exclusives need to continue to come out on all platforms for any huge gaps in sales

Yup - but the demand can't all be pre-orders. I'm assuming that there will be a reasonable number of people who will buy it boxed - and of that I think a resonable amount will use the bundle to get PS3 as well as they will be new to the console.

You just made it...:p

Anyway on topic...dunno if it will make much difference in the long term. I dont think the added content on the 360 will make much difference with the part-time gamer crowd eitehr. I cant even count the number of friends I have that own a ps2 with madden and one of the GTA games and nothing else. Unless MS absolutely pushes the crap out of it so the average consumer knows about the extras people will just buy whatever they see in front of their face first, even then the extra content will be meaningless since they dont buy many games and certainly wont buy a subscription. The hardcore crowd is so polarized that its not likely to make any difference there either. In all buying the extra content may prove to be more costly than what it returns.

When are you going to realise that the UK almost IS the European market?

We buy more consoles per head than the whole of Europe put together.

I predict when GTA:IV comes out the sales for the 360 will go nuclear here because you can buy an elite here for under £200 if you know what you are doing.

And where would you get an Elite for under £200?

And where would you get an Elite for under £200?

This site http://www.hotukdeals.com/all/all/hot routinely has deals posted they have already had the Elite on it for £219.99 with 3 games and £199.99 with no games.

Keep watching it and you will see.
