Why can't Sony and Microsoft simply put aside their differences, and create one kick@$$ game system together? Sure, both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 are great consoles in their own ways. As a multiconsole player and owner, I see no reason why these two media giants must fight it out. Besides, they need to be worried about the Nintendo Wii.
Sure, the Wii will never stack up to either the Playstation 3 or the Xbox 360 in graphics, processing power, or its multimedia capabilities. However, so many people are buying it instead. (I know that the main reason is price.) But if Sony and Microsoft were together, just think. Its easy to see just how amazing of a job they do own their own, but together, there would never be a console to rival their ability to out-perform anything that would possibly come into the market.
The only thing that would possibly have a slight chance in standing up to that would be the almighty PC, and even the PC wouldn't be able to completely topple the console. If anything, since the PC gaming market is so small in comparison to consoles, and since consoles are becoming more and more like PCs, there would be no competition except whatever Nintendo coughs up next.
When I suggest this idea, I don't mean either Sony or Microsoft should buy one another out. No, that wouldn't be good. However, if they were to combine their talents, they would be the dominating force in the gaming industry. Taking Sony's excellent hardware ideas (Blu-Ray, CELL, full 1080p, a hard drive for every console... even the cheaper model, motion sensing controllers with rumble, incorporating Bluetooth and WiFi, and much more...) and add all those things together with Microsoft's ability to have their own hardware produced instead of bought, meaning more profit for the companies. Plus, being influenced by Xbox Live and PSN's HOME, and each console's respective exclusive titles: Halo, Gears of War, Metal Gear Solid, HAZE, Resistance, Gran Turismo, and more. Then adding in the big shared titles: Grand Theft Auto, Devil May Cry, and Call of Duty, how could you go wrong?
If only this would happen, the consumer would always win.
