View Full Version : MS: Xbox sold over 17.7 million, we've secured the core gamer
Microsoft announced today that they have shifted over 17.7 million Xbox 360 units worldwide. The Xbox 360 has reached this number in just over two years on the market, while the original Xbox sold over 24 million units between November 2001 and May 2006. Also, Xbox European boss Chris Lewis, has said that: "The race is far from over. We've always had a deliberate strategy that we had to secure the core gamers first. Having done so in a way that we're proud of, we now have a real appetite to appeal to the mass market."

take into account, the number of replacements, and second consoles that owners have HAD to buy,due to the poor quality of the manufacturing, and this number will drop significantly.
why's that?
aren't MS's numbers shipped to retail?

The only ones your eliminating there are the ones who hacked their 360 or otherwise voided their warranty...I know folks here tend to think they are the core gaming audience but the people who mod their consoles is actually a very small minority. 360 replaced under warranty dont go towards sales because NPD only reports retail numbers.

Heh, I think they meant to say the "shooter-core gamer."
As for the "The race is far from over" comment, yeah, great job on obtaining half of your sales in the first lap (year) without any competition.

The 360 has good games that's why it sells, the PS3 cost too much and has Uncharted and Motorstorm.
I'd buy a PS3 if they lowered the price by a considerate amount.

Who says 17.7 million units is the standard?
Microsoft, you win when you sell 100 Million units, TWICE... like Sony.. Thats what you call securing the casual audience.
Not to toot anybodys horn..
