Xbox 360 price cuts a response to Blu-ray victory ?, plus Nintendo UK reaction

A Nintendo UK spokesman has responded to the Xbox 360 price cuts saying that they will not be cutting the price of the Wii in response to the Xbox360 cuts, saying “they are going for a different market with the price cuts… and once you start slashing the price of something, there is really only one way to go”. Also an analyst for The simExchange believes that the price cuts are in response to Sonys Blu-ray victory and will let Microsoft take full advantage of upcoming hardware sellers such as Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 and GTA IV. The analyst then went onto say that he doesn't "think either the PS3 or the Xbox 360 will ever be able to compete against it - no matter how low either of them drops their price,".


I've always considered the console wars to be like a game of chess and Sony's recent Blu-ray victory is equivalent to putting Microsoft in 'check'," he said. "This is why we are talking about an Xbox 360 price cut and not a PlayStation 3 price cut - Sony already made their move, it's now Microsoft's turn."

"Of course, in the short-term this will be a good strategy for Microsoft to position itself away from the PS3 as a cheaper next-generation console, while still being able to compete against the Wii," he said.

the 360 is easily found well under RRP already, making it official isnt going to change things. would make far more sense to offer a free game of your choice at the current prices.
If a gamer is still choosing a much weaker system when the price difference is marginal, I'd say price isnt playing a very big part in their decision.

Hell there's even a Gundum Game (I didn't even know about it), sadly this "Win" turns to an "EPIC TRAGIC AMOUNTS OF FAILURE" with the simple edition of the Words "Dynasty Warriors".
Perhaps it's just me, but I find no joy running head-long into Giant Army's like a Bull in a China Shop.

OTOH: there's a Naruto Game, but that's a level of lameness best left for the S0NY Fanboi's.

I think the next Games I'll be picking up are Trusty Bell and PGR4.

And on that note anyone here with the 260 Wheel?
How is it can you play with it sitting on your lap?

Response to betamax2 victory? Thats wishful thinking, in reality both sony and MS do their best to rival Wii in price and Nintendo couldn't care less because they feel very comfortable at the current price point.

At this point, it seems that PS3 and 360 are duking it out for second place in hopes of being in position to actch the Wii should momentum swing to the Hi Def systems later in this generation's lifecycle (2009, 2010, etc.).

Nintendo's just making it clear that they're going to lower the price on the Wii based on their own sales figures and not based on what MS and Sony do. At the moment, Nintendo's selling every console they make pretty much as soon as they hit the shelves. It would be stupid to lower the price under those circumstances.

I bought a wii and don't mind that it just sits for a couple weeks doing nothing.. cuz in my opinion i've gotten my $250 dollars worth out of it and the drunk wii sports, GH3 sessions at parties have been priceless.

Don't get me wrong I'll buy an XBOX360 when MS gets the failure rate on lock down. And I'll buy a PS3 when it drops to 250 w/ps2 compatibility and GOW3 is out for it. I don't need Blu-ray movies dumbass format...(thats what .mkv for ;) )

It would be foolish to assume either Nintendo or Sony would say they are going to cut prices out of fear of lost sales to MS, that would definelty hurt their share prices. It also fairly obvious that a representative from a one company is not going to say that a competitiors price reduction is a positive for them without down playing it in some way.

Fact is, if this move by MS eats into Nintendo profits then the Wii will see a price cut, though you will likley see a price cut masquerading under different reasons. As for this being a response to blu-ray, it may well be but I think it's more a response to the fact that the PS3 is starting to do very well in europe, and a 33% cheaper but equally capable machine with more games is liley to look a lot more attractive.

I have no doubts that the PS3 will at least drop to the same price as the Elite somtime soon and Nintendo may actually start sending consoles to retailers as opposed to starving them to give the always sold out look (is say this as 2 people I know work in large stores, Comet and Woolworths, and both say they either get very few consoles in to sell as opposed to selling them quickly), in response to this somtime soon.

They are selling over a million a month worldwide, so your ''Nintendo are staving retailers'' just wont work, some retailers are getting more than others.

You know, if you spent as much time playing games as you do hating, you would realize that Eternal Sonata is coming to PS3 most likely with extras, seeing as the game was short. Then, if you are an RPG player you will miss out on TONS of quality JRPG's on Sony's console.

I used to be that stupid once too, until I finally gave up, picked up that piece of **** hardware called the 360, and yes, it is built like a piece of ****, a joke in terms of hardware if you will. Only thing that matters right now though... I am now playing Lost Odyssey and soon Eternal Sonata, Disgaea 3, White Knight Chronicles, Final Fantasy XIII, etc... while you wait for another game from Mistwalker or Tales of Vesperia? which I think is later this year.

So hate all you want and miss out on tons of quality titles.

I left school when i was 15 with a decent education, and you probably left when you were 21 or 22, thats 6 years or so of difference, i would say you have a nice little office job, while i work in the cold building houses for a living, then it comes to the end of the week and you get $500 - $1000 if you're lucky, and i walk away with €2,500 which is almost $4000 for 5 days work / 9-5, which is a standard bricklayers wage where i am and when i start working for myself that will double! yep all that education you have over me is going to take you further in the world than it will take me ;)

Dont forget Inifinite Undiscovery, Fable 2, Far East of Eden Zeria, Cry On, Apocalypse Desire Next and of course Last Remnant and Star Ocean 4 (both multiplatform). :) Good year for rpgs on both consoles imho.

It has nothing to do with education but rather one's intelligence because I have seen 6 year old kids who know the difference and write it properly while there are 30 year old retards who can't.

Alright dude, we will end it now, i thought you were basically saying i was badly educated, also even though i dont like any MS consoles, i love sonys and i will have a PS3 very soon, but im pretty damn happy with the wii right now, i love drinking with my friends playing it.
