View Full Version : MS play down Blu-ray talks, no plans to introduce Blu-ray
An unknown Micrsoft rep has said that "In response to Stan Glasgow’s statement that Blu-ray is a possibility for Xbox 360, we have made no such announcement". They also have said that "Games are what are driving consumers to purchase game consoles and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available." So if they are saying the 360 is only meant to be a console for playing games, why do they give it the ability to play songs or movies. Or let it link up to your computer to get files off of it?

*zipper opening*
Microsoft : get on your knees sony....
bwhahahaha
Microsoft will "remain focused on the games"
Thanks you microsoft, for giving gamers what they want. GAMES!
If the wii doesn't need blu-ray then the 360 doesn't either! The ps3 is in 3rd place thanks to blu-ray.

Well, one would think that such things are suppose to enhance your entertainment experience and provide the console with more ways to keep you entertained. However its no secret that where the 360 dominates most is the games, as it should considering we are talking about a gaming console...

The more and more I think about it, the more the PS3 stands out for the Bluray player. I had the HDDVD add on, but it was a fairly large entire seperate piece with another power cord. I've had the PS3 for about 6 weeks, the 360 for about 7 months. The more I use it the more I like the PS3 better. 360 is still up top because of games, but if the PS3 ends up with a decent library it will hands down be the better machine (really well integrated bluray features, 5 times more quiet, built in wireless that connects ultra-easy, the best (aka fastest) digital cam picture/movie viewer I've ever used, more powerful system configuration interface, controller with self contained power)
I'm not a Sony guy, these two systems are the first I've owned since having a genesis. I was much more pro 360 because of games, but it's becoming pretty clear to me the design of the PS3 is superior, at least for the end user (manufacturing?).

Well nobody said that they did make an announcement did they? the guy said that they were in talks, nobody mentioned anyone making an announcement. Personally I don't think it's such a bad idea if they do an add-on as long as it's competitively priced ($150-ish). I mean I'm not sure if they will sell a great amount, but at least they are giving people the option, and as I seem to remember 360 owners were always delighted about that.
A built in drive would be a waste since it would not get used for games anyways, that idea is as smart as the other bright suggestion many made that sony drop the BD drive from the ps3; ok maybe before it was released that would have been ok, but not when the ps3 had been out for various months.
Back on topic, why didn't the guy give his name? if he's shooting down a rumor then there should be no problems right?

MS says it isnt coming means its coming. They need to clear all those HDDVD drives first.
I think its good that they dont bring it to 360. They didt support it at the first.
But I would like to see BR on there next console.

No matter how much sony wants to spread betamax2 they probably would do anything to stop 360 from having it. Why let 360 owners have add-on drive for 100-200$ when they could be forced to buy ps3?

The PS3 isn't the only blu-ray player out.
Also, Sony has said that if Microsoft wanted to come out with a Blu-Ray drive for the 360, they would have no problem letting them.

Is it still not clear how far sony will go to get people to adopt BD? There's a chance that this would not work in the ps3s favor, but there's also a chance that this won't affect it at all, there's a chance it will have a good repercussions on BD's adoption rate, or maybe not, but one thing is for certain this won't hurt BD in any way.

Why does Microsoft sit there and say "our focus is on Games" "this is a games console" when the have a rapidly growing, largely hyped Movie download service going on?
Why do xbox fanboys praise this thread? MS didnt own anybody besides its own users..
mark that as one less thing the 360 can't do, cannot play the standard HI-DEF media, CHECK..

You say:
"rapidly growing" = Thats a good thing, it is a service after all.Variety is a good things to have.
"Largely hyped" = Ill give your greatness the benefit of a doubt and ask what are the cons of this service?
*Fast downloads*
*Great interface*
*Cheap rentals*
That sounds like something that deserves hype for those of who actually care of such things:rolleyes:
My point is, just because they focus on giving you more it does not mean they leave anything alone. They do a great job with the interface and options to get you the best in entertainment and gaming.NOT JUST A BLUE SCREEN WITH A SMALL, "OLD" SELECTION OF DOWNLOADS.
Wise up kid, it is possible to have alot of good come out of this console.
Maybe if you werent such an ignorant fanboy you might actually give it a shot as appose to just judging from the side lines like so many of you fanboys do.

well i think it would be a good thing for MS to adopt bluray .... after all how many digital media movie downloads can you fit on a 20 gig hdd ?
what about those with slow connectin speeds how long will it take to download a full 1080p movie considering the size
bluray is pretty much the only way to go now with a large enough medium to store such things on so unless internet speeds come close to supersonic within the next few months its the next step forward
this isnt a fanboy choice just a logical one for now anyway

I didnt buy my 360 to play Films, I bought it to play Games... So who cares about BR, as im sure over 90% of 360 users bought their console for games too.

You would have a point if it wasnt for the fact that movies delete after being watched because they are rentals, *auto delete or expire* w/e
And im sure downloading the movies "regardless of size" are allot quicker than placing a mail in rental and/or going to buy one from the store which i might add is the overall point.
And for the record there is never a reason to be a fanboy.
You make whatever choice suits you but at the end of the day at least have some reasoning behind it.i have yet to see myself playing any bluerays on my ps3 or downloading any movies on my 360 because when i turn them on my only focus is gaming...

MS: we'll support Blu-ray
Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said at the Mix08 conference, that they have moved on since HD-DVD's demise and that they will support Blu-ray. "We've already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like, and I think the world moves on. Toshiba has moved on. We've moved on, and we'll support Blu-ray in ways that make sense." he said.
It took about 24 hours for the lie to be exposed. Like someone posted, it's getting to the point to if M$ says one things the complete opposite is true. M$ lies so much, it's becoming hilarious. A writer couldn't write this kind of crap for a sit-com or satire.

The phrase "an unnamed Microsoft representative" should've set off alarm bells in anyone's head, especially when actual, confirmable, named Microsoft reps have stated the exact opposite.
