View Full Version : Bourne Conspiracy dev: No HDD in Core 360 a mistake

Bourne Conspiracy's lead game designer has said that it was a mistake not to include a hard drive as standard with every 360. He said that the hard drive benefits developers and he "is not sure why they decided to not require a hard drive on the 360. From what I understand they don't move many [Core/Arcade] units,".

"Developers certainly benefit [from a hard drive]," he went on to explain, adding: "if you have a hard drive, the whole game loads faster. Obviously you'll be facing a short install time, but the developer benefits from it and you definitely benefit from it as a player.

"So I think that was one of the mistakes that Microsoft made with the 360," added McGuire

It is microsofts way of keeping 20min installs from happening. Sony should have stopped that crap the second it happend.

I also think it was a step backwards since every original xbox had one. What MS needs to do is cut the insane price of the hdd, or make an enclosure that allows you to insert your own drive.

It was smart move to make 360 HDD as a option, but total crap decision not to allow any HDD to be used

For developers: Do what EA did with Burnout Paradise. Just say "you need a hard drive to play this". And be done with it.

I agree all xbox 360s should have come with a harddrive, you practically need one to get all the good stuff anyway demos, custom music and etc. I have a ps3 and I don't mind a 20 min install if it's going to reduce loading times from 7-8 seconds to 1-2 seconds or none. I can also live with 7-8 second load times depending on how often it needs to load. But why settle for 7-8 sec load times when you don't have to

Microsoft should do what Nintendo did with the N64 expansion pack. Release a game that requires a hard drive, and include a 20gig with it.
If I can get Guitar Hero with or without a guitar, I should be able to get a game with or without a hard drive. No sense in having the ones who have hard drives suffer b/c of the ones that don't have one.

It's a good thing, game installs on a console are bullcrap! Now all Microsoft need to do is drop the price of the HDD to a level that isnt theft!!!

COD4 installs to HDD and you never notice it does. If you actually own a PS3 and base it on a number of games to check variables in the time it takes you would see for yourself. If you play a game on PC what do you have to do, install it first. Besides, how else can you "update" a pressed disc?

Not all games take 20 min to install.

Now to the 360 HDD, yes that is bullshit to enlcose the drive. It is the same HDD that can be used in the PS3 (SATA) buy they trapped it in their own cage then charge you insanely for it.

Again, console =/= pc. If I want to install a game before I play it I'll buy the pc version. Consoles should be plug and play, no installs. How can you "update" a pressed disc? The 360 seems to do it just fine, you don't update the whole disc you download a small update, the game knows where to find the newer updates on the storage device, and that's that, no installs necessary.

No hard disk was originally an option to keep prices down and *hopefully for MS* sell more units. Unfortunately for them the vast majority of gamers would rather spend the extra money and not have a gimped version. Sony learned this already, when will MS? As a poster said, except for replacing broken/banned consoles who would buy one? The core/arcade is a flop.

microsoft is not averse to the idea of games requiring hard drives. in fact in the future games it might even become mandatory. but once again what dumb garbage like most of you fail to understand is - THEYRE WATCHING OUT FOR YOU. YOU. YOU. AND YOU.

microsoft can just as easily allow games to require the hard drive. look at burnout paradise. look at call of duty 4. for full functionality and online play you are encouraged to have a hard drive on these systems. if they wanted they would FORCE you to install devil may cry 4 onto the hard drive as well. but they didnt.

sony forces you to do that. and everyone seems to be ok with it. believing it provides faster loading times, when the game loads just as fast as on the 360 with worse looking visuals on the ps3.

the reason microsoft didnt include a hard drive in the core unit is to reduce costs. because they WANT the 360 to apeal to everyone. you get the same core system, which everyone else gets. SAME HARD WARE, SAME FEATURES. and when you want you have the option to upgrade it.

PLUS it doesnt force people to buy a scaled down system with less features like a 40 gb ps3. you buy a cheap core system. and when you feel like it, you get the hard drive. pure and simple. if you can afford it, you might very well get the premium. OR ELITE. thats what i did when i started out.

unlike sony, they didnt come up with WHOLE DIFFERENT MODELS. where they ripped card readers, backwards compatibility, and even hard drive space off of you.

why are you people SO IGNORANT? WHY? and how do you survive in everyday life and progress when youre this stupid? hmmm....then again most of you probably dont even contribute anything to life and float through the day and the job. *whew* feels better to explain that.

I bought a core unit because I built my own 120Gb hard drive. If you want to complain about the price of the hard drive, why not build your own? HddHackr 0.91 there ya go.

It woulnt be a problem if MS woulnt be slapping big prices on the separate HDD units. 99.99$ for just 20GB? 49.99$ for a 512MB memory unit? Sorry, thats just overkill. For 99 dollars I can get a 150GB HDD for my PC or my PS3, and my 4GB memory stick only cost me 40$.

+2 agree

Sony stepped forward with all consoles haveing a HDD but then stepped right back with no back compatibility:rolleyes:
