View Full Version : can i get some Wiikey clearification?
ok, ive long considered getting a wiikey, and have a guy who will install a genuine wiikey for $50, i do not solder
right before i was ready ship it off the brawl issues started being reported
i heard everything from you could only burn 1 layer, any cutscenes would freeze the system, the story mode wasnt playable past like level 1, and that a retail version wouldnt even boot on a wiikey system
ive been away on business for a few weeks, and im kind of lost as far as what has happened since then?
to be honest my main convern is the retail not booting, as a wiikey would essentially make my wii useless for any news games i wanted to buy

If you do an external install, you can easily remove the Wiikey or use any other mod chip that you want.

The Brawl back-up will play on the Wiikey, but not the original.

so the entire Brawl game is playable?
no issues with the dual layer anymore?

Some peoplpe still have some issues which forced them to use the swap trick, I've noticed that alot of people just ignore these people with the problems and giving statement of "everything works just fine dont be a pantsy." So yeah Wiikey should get a update ready for a better DL support, just like all the other chips are doing if not well WiiKey is just commiting suicide.

just curious,
isn't that wiikey can be deemed as a dying mod as it no longer has its official website up for quite a bit and what do all guys do (wiikey users) if later on there are more problems arising from not having higher version of update?
quite honestly i really feel that turning my head to other mod chip because of above reason would be a pain

they are working on an update. cyclowiz is kind of dead (not manufactured anymore).. the newer mods don't work on older wii's.. etc.

hey thanks for the info...cool
do you happen to know who they are? are they the same people who did created wiikey in the first place? if so, then it could mean that wiikey world is not dead yet but only the website....

For real they don't plan on making it anymore?? Sucks, I got in a v2 Cyclowiz from someone here on the forum not too long ago. I wonder if I should try an sell it.

The makers of the wiikey do NOT have a website or a supported forum that has team members posting on.
So ANY news regarding an update is hearsay.
Remember this is the same company that took 6 MONTHS to come out with their initial update, that was contracted out to some coder. The original coder is no longer doing the work, as confirmed by the wiikey team when they stated who would be supporting it in the future, and the coders that should be supporting it now have given no offical news. So as of now there has been NO confirmation from the actual company that there will ever again be an update for the wiikey.
As far as the Cyclowiz goes, they have never made an official statement that the chip is no longer being manufactured.
When I sent an email I was told they had run into issues and further production was planned.
Just buy a programmer and a chip for like 11 bucks and put YAOSM on it if you have an older wii.
Again, here is a link that shows that the wiikey when compared to the Cyclowiz does not have 100% compatibility with DVD -R or DVD +R media that was tested, which indicates the wiikey has an impact on media compatibility.

He did not test YAOSM, but given that with what he did test the wiikey did not have 100% compatibility with EITHER -R media or +R media, why waste your time with the wiikey, there is a good reason there were so many people that complained that media that worked before no longer worked after updating to 1.9g firmware.
Edit to add link and remove remarks to avoid flame fest:
You can get a programmer and chip for like $8.50 from here: (Which you can put YAOSM on)

Is it not true that the cyclowiz can use open source stuff anyway?

If you want I can put a switch, so you can just turn on and off the wiikey from the outside, so you can play original brawl.

If it's your only choice then go for it, but get him to install a switch to shut it off.
I can confirm that the Wiikey is what was preventing my ORIGINAL SSBB from working in my Wii.
I will be replacing it with another chip soon (and not something from the former Wiikey team...they can screw off with their zero support).
I want to see how the Wasabi turns out this week, that may be my next choice (or the Argon).
having a ntsc 3.2u + wiikey 1.9g so far in my case is an excellent experience,
i haven't played ssbb however, as i also doesn't know which version i should be getting...
lets hope there will be not much incompatibility for future games with the wiikey as the developer has abandoned them and run away
