View Full Version : What's a good SD Card adapter to get?

I just got my WiiKey SD Card adapter from Dealxtreme today, and it worked fine until a few moments ago when it broke. It only cost $5 so it's not too bad, but I wantone that'll actually work more than once and the $4 adapter on DX looks worse. Should I spend the extra cash on the nicer SD Adapters or order another of these $5 adapters and hope it works? I really wanted to try out the Twilight Princess hack too, but the damn thing broke before I could load the elf file onto the card. All I got to do with it was run some test dol on SDLoad. I'm gonna try and fix it. The thing is when I fix things they usually work, but they don't look pretty.

I was actually considering that at one point, but I didn't want to lose functionality of memory card slot A and the Wii SD card slot for it. To keep those I'd have to make a switch, but I've already got a switch sticking out for my internal wavebird and it isn't pretty. I figure I'll take my chances and down another $5 on another one of these. It seems that these adapters are hit or miss some work and some don't. I doubt I'm going to be using the SD card too much so I'm not going to hard wire it.

That's kinda cool, I guess I might consider it now. It's been a long time since I took this thing apart though, I guess this gives me a chance to clean up my internal wavebird switch. Basically I've got the two ends of the ground wire coming out of a vent and a button switch soldered on. I had to install it because it would go crazy if you plugged in a controller in the socket. I'm gonna go ahead and down another $5 on one of these and if it breaks again, I'll do this mod or maybe take apart one of the broken geckos and install another SD card slot onto the Wii or something.

Do you have a link to this hardwire mod?
I tried searching for it but keep getting messed up results -- usually referring to the internal memcard mod
the closest I found was this:
http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=69324&highlight=slot
but it doesn't look like he got it working
is this the mod??

That guide looks pretty nice, and here I was thinking I had to figure this entire mod out myself without pictures. It does seem handy, but I can't help but think some kind of complication may arise from this set up, I've already had problems getting other controllers to work on my first controller port. I'll bookmark it though.
