Ok, I finally modded my Wii, but had some issues with a couple of games that I want you guys to give me suggestions on. I have a total of 11 backup games and these are the only ones that have given problems so far. Here is my setup:

D2B Wii with cut legs running 3.1U firmware, external mod chip installation with dongle running Wiikey 1.9g. My dad did the modding work and he is very good with soldering.

These are the games with the issues, all of my backups were burned on a Sony DRU-800A burner at 6x because it doesn't let me burn any slower. I believe that this burner was released in 2005 and it has the latest firmware available.

Metroid 3 was burned on a Sony -R, gives a read error on the loading screen after clicking on start in the disc channel.

Game Party was burned on a Sony -R, the game starts fine but it gives a read error when you are going to pick a mini game from the games main menu.

Wii Play was burned on a TDK -R and Memorex +R, gives a read error after running for about 30mins to 1 hour.

Zelda was burned on a TDK -R, this game was working great and had been played for a good while the day before. It gave a read error randomly during game play yesterday.

The only other DVD burner that I have is in my laptop and I believe that one can burn at 4x, but I'm not sure if its recommended for Wii backups. Thanks

ok here goes :-

sounds good as long as we dont see any "an error has occurred" screens it would seem your pops soldering is good. give him a pat on the back and tell him you love him ;)

Sounds like this could be your problem buddy, why not invest in a new one, end of the day a good, fresh burner will A: save money on wasted discs B: save time, effort and your pop possibly going bald C: save your Wiis drive having to struggle to read duffly burnt discs.

a new pioneer drive in the UK costs around £20 and i`m sure if your pop can fit a modchip he has no probs stickin a dvd writer in a pc. belive me it will make all the difference. would strongly recommend going for a pioneer drive though, they are the best (IMO) for games consoles.

the above errors strongly suggest that its just a media / burner issue.

heres some tips (ones i always give to people)

use a pioneer drive (get a new one if you have an old one)
use IMGBurn to burn the discs
burn at 4x
use Ritek G05 disks (ask the guy in the pc shop for some, if he recommends any others , unless there taiyo yudens hes speaking shite)

MAKE SURE YOUR PC IS NO DOING ANY OTHER LABOUR INTENSIVE TASK, AND ALSO MAYBE GIVE IT A DEFRAG AND RUN AN ANTI SPYWARE CHECKER TO FREE UP RESOURCES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only other DVD burner that I have is in my laptop and I believe that one can burn at 4x, but I'm not sure if its recommended for Wii backups. Thanks

give it a whirl, end of the day you dont know unless you try, it may work perfectly and be fine, there is no right and wrong dvd burners, or methods etc etc its a case of what works for you , stick to it.

I`m only giving you advice based on me being problem free in the above processes, hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Cheeky. I can look for some Ritek discs at Best Buy or even on Newegg and while I'm there, I will also look into the Pioneer burner. BTW, is there any particular Pioneer burner that you or anyone can recommend?

Recently picked up a Pioneer DVR-212D (SATA 18x6x18 DL 10x) to replace my dying Pioneer DVR-108 and it's been great, paid $25.99 CDN for it.

recommend : the latest one, i think on IDE = 115d SATA = 212 as above poster, like i say for the price it worth it if it save hassle alone, let alone wasted disks and that sinking depressing feeling ;)

Thanks again for the info Cheeky and KKajun. They have these burners cheap on Newegg so I will pick one up probably in SATA. I tried burning Game Party and Metroid 3 on my laptop's burner at 4x with the Memorex +R discs and they work perfectly now.

Hey, i just get my Wiikey, and am trying to update it to v1.2. i burned a game that i downloaded and put it in and it worked just fine. i know it can play DVDs but i have to have v1.2 at least. ok when i put the disk in, the wii reads the disk and comes up as a gamecube disk, when i click start it says an error has occured. how do i get around this. the iso is 4.37g's, that is the size it needs to be so the wii will read it. i have got that far, just need help getting past were it says an error has occured. does anyone have any suggestions?
thanks

Most read errors are due to a bad burn or the Wii doesn't like the media. Read the post above from Cheeky.
