View Full Version : yaosm installed - programming/soldering problem?

I had yaosm installed externally on my Wii, along with a switch that allows me to switch between yaosm/wiikey/neither (from what i understand just cuts the power to either modchip). However, no backups work when the PIC chip is connected to the socket, regardless of the position of the switch. Originals are fine though.

The next thing I did was to remove the PIC chip from the socket and flipped the switch to use wiikey. Now my backups work normally as they did before.

My question is, could this be a soldering problem or a programming problem with the PIC chip? If it were the latter I could just get the installation guy to send me another chip.

Yes it is.

I opened up my Wii and couldnt find any visibly bad soldering joints... if it were a solder-related problem, would it have even booted original discs at all?

Maybe the PIC chip has an old YAOSM version that isn't working with the backups. I would reload the programming onto the PIC chip.

I specifically asked the guy who did the install to program ver 2.0f on the chip so I dont think its a problem with the version. It just puzzles me why backups won't boot when I switch to wiikey while the PIC chip is connected. As soon as I detach the PIC chip, backups will boot again like normal. Perhaps even though there's a switch, the bad PIC chip/solder job still affects my wiikey when the PIC chip is connected?
